Listen to the Words.
I was listening to "The Middle" by Jimmy Eats World (dont even ask about the name) today, and it hit differently. (This my not be your type of music, but listen to the words.) I think neurodivergent people spend so much of our lives feeling like we're behind. Behind on laundry. Behind on texts. Behind on paperwork. Behind on the dishes. Behind on life. Meanwhile...our brains have been running 211 tabs, solving emergencies, replaying a conversation from 2008, remembering we forgot to order dog food, and wondering if penguins have knees. (By the way, penguins DO have knees.) We're exhausted before breakfast. Sometimes I think we spend so much energy trying to function like everyone else that we forget to notice we're actually doing something pretty AMAZING....... We still show up. Maybe not perfectly. Maybe a little late. (EITHER REALLY LATE OR REALLY EARLY FOR ME) Maybe with coffee in one hand and three unfinished projects in the other. But we still show up... And some days "doing your best" doesn't look productive. It looks like taking a shower....... Answering one email....... Making one phone call..... Remembering to eat before 4 p.m. That's still progress. (Thanks Jim, I learned this from this group.) So if today your brain is doing neurodivergent gymnastics, here is our reminder..... You are not behind... You're just running a different operating system...one that occasionally crashes because someone asked, "Can we talk for a minute?" Ahhhhhh now I dont remember what I was doing..... Keep going...... Your best counts, even when it doesn't look like everyone else's.
