NICHE vs. DESIGNER — Which Side Are You On?
This is one of the oldest debates in the fragrance world - and opinions run HOT. NICHE FRAGRANCES: Crafted by independent houses obsessed with artistry over mass appeal. Think Amouage, Creed, Serge Lutens. Bold, complex, unapologetically unique. You wear niche and you know no one else in the room is wearing the same thing. But you're paying for the privilege. DESIGNER FRAGRANCES — The Chanels, the Diors, the Tom Fords. Masterfully blended, backed by decades of heritage, and worn by people who know what they're doing. Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel are bestsellers for a reason — they're refined, proven, and never embarrassing. The debate: Is niche fragrance the pinnacle of personal expression — or is it overpriced elitism dressed up as art? And are designer houses underrated gems hiding in plain sight? Tell us: Team Niche or Team Designer? Vote below 👇 — and tell me which house or specific fragrance makes your case? Roast the other camp respectfully — this is a gentleman's debate after all. 😄

Superdrug UK Perfume Pods - One Time Free Fill Offer
Quick note for UK peeps who might not be aware. Superdrug offer a service where they’ll give you a free fill from a curated fragrance selection on purchase of a Perfume Pod (a 5ml travel atomiser). The pod costs £8. Apparently, it’s everything but “premium” fragrances, but some stores are more loose with that definition than others. It’s also dependant on what testers they have. I bought one yesterday, and got a free 5ml of Stronger With You Absolutely. There were many others of interest to me too. Worth a look!

Continuing my challenge using up samples from my collection in alphabetical order. I got the sample of this from one of the TPG Mystery boxes. It came as part of a sample kit that included all 6 fragrances from the house. The perfumer, Sean Colbert, is a musician, and he uses his understanding of music to create "layered scents of restraint and depth. Balancing harmony and contrast, each idea moves dynamically through the composition. Notes don't disappear - they evolve, taking on new form and weight from top to base." Notes: Top Notes: Citrus, Coriander, Melon Middle: Ginger, Grapefruit, Marine Notes Base: Fern, Musk, Woods Scent: 7.5 It is definitely a spring / summer scent. I honestly think that it smells a lot like the opening of Terre d'Hermes EDT. It is definitely a spring / summer scent. I honestly think that it smells a lot like the opening of Terre d'Hermes EDT. it has that same mineralic citrus quality with a similar earthiness in the dry down. It even performs in a similar way. It is a bit sweeter and more aquatic, but if you enjoy TDH, you will enjoy Knife Thrower. Performance: 7.0 It's a very quiet and intimate scent. It does get more powerful as the day goes on and the body warms the oils up, but it never really projects much beyond about arm's length. After a few hours, it became pretty much a skin scent on me, and was gone by mid-afternoon. I think that's actually a feature, and not a bug here. I think if it was more of a beast mode fragrance, it would detract from the overall experience that Buchart is going for. Package Design: 7.0 These come in 50, 10, and sample size bottles. The 50's have a really cool design on them, and the artwork is beautiful and interesting. But I don't know that Knife Thrower as a name fits the vibe that this fragrance projects. Based on the name, I'd expect something thrilling and a bit dangerous with an edge. Instead, it comes of like a modernized cover take on an old classic. While fun and enjoyable, it doesn't really break new ground. Especially when compared to the other fragrances in the lineup (Luten Errant is my favorite of the six).
