Another Day another Sample
Going through the PDM Sample set Going with the Haltane today. While the notes speak of Oud and wood, I don't get much of that. I get a nice sweet floral with some freshness that sits well on a warmer day. It projects well about 3-4' and isn't overpowering but as I move around y office I get a nice reminder of what I'm wearing. I got about 5hours on it before I resprayed. I'll wear this again and continue to see how it evolves over the coming wears before I decide if its FBW

@Jeff Beason it truly is wonderful for my first wear. I may have been a bit timid in my application today but I can fix that 😎

Growth within the Fragrance World.
In my experience, some people never really grow in the fragrance hobby because they get comfortable and stop exploring. They stay in the same lane year after year, buying the same types of fragrances, chasing the same trends, and listening to the same opinions without ever branching out and developing their own taste. A lot of people get stuck in the designer and clone world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with designers or clones—I started there myself, and they can be a great way to learn. The problem comes when someone never moves beyond them. If every purchase is just another variation of the same popular DNA or another clone of a fragrance they have never even smelled, their fragrance journey can become very limited. They may end up owning dozens of fragrances but experiencing very little of what perfumery has to offer. Many people also judge everything by the same standards: projection, longevity, compliments, and value for money. Those things matter, but they are only part of the picture. There is also composition, quality of materials, creativity, balance, transitions, emotion, and the skill it takes to create something unique and memorable. Some of the most interesting fragrances in the world are not necessarily the loudest or longest-lasting. Another issue is that collecting can become more important than learning. Owning hundreds of bottles does not automatically mean someone has developed their nose. Sometimes a person with twenty carefully selected fragrances has learned far more because they have spent time wearing them, comparing them, studying them, and understanding what makes each one special. That’s why I believe that if you join a fragrance lover community, it should be about exploration and discovery, not just validation. The goal shouldn’t be to have everyone wear the same fragrances or chase the same hype. It should be about learning from each other, discovering new styles, exploring different fragrance families, understanding perfumers, and expanding your horizons. Whether that’s designer, niche, artisan, indie, vintage, or even a well-made clone, there is always something new to learn.

What a great discussion @Lon Chaneyfield ! I’m still very new to the hobby and have learned a lot on here. Found brands I never heard of and have been willing to try them. So I like some I didn’t but that’s the whole thing for me. While I’m not great at picking up specific notes. I rely on how the fragrance makes me feel. I start to smell something and I may not like it immediately but after the dry down I’m WOW this is great. It’s an evolution. But in this particular hobby I’m more about feel.

@Lon Chaneyfield very true. I smell a lot more than I buy. And have bags and bags of samples that my salespeople have given me over the years to get me interested in more brands and of course buying from them. But I try to be patient. That being said if my wife and I are away and have decided to go to a particularly large retail store with a lot of different brands we tend to come home with more that we expected but part of the fun for me is sharing this with her and getting lost in the moment with her. ☺️. That’s also a feeling. What I love about fragrance is how it can completely change my mood with the right fragrance as well as bring back very powerful memories of where I was and what I was doing etc. Something magical about it for me. And if that magic is what the perfumer was going for and it hit me the way it was intended so much the better.
First Day Back with the collection
I was away with the family and took some wonderful scents with me. (more on those later) Now that I am home, I wanted to reach for something new that I have not had much experience with so far. MFK - L'Homme A La Rose This is a nice soft woody floral. Not a lot of projection, sits nicely on the skin, but it is a "for Me" scent as the scent trail will require others to be fairly close and in your personal space in order to get their nose on it. It's been on for a few hours and it is already starting to fade, so I think I'll need a respray.

@Julio Gutierrez Thank you 🙏
PDM - Pegasus
A nice crisp morning here in the NE 53 degrees made me want to reach for something a little warmer. This scent has great projection but not beast mode. leaves a nice scent trail for others without knocking them over. The dry down goes more into a powdery floral which as it warms up today should be a very nice transition.
