SOTD: Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein 23/01/2026
Hard to believe, I was 10 when this first hit the shelves. Launched back in 1986, from the nose of Robert Slattery. This was an 80's powerhouse, a classic that brings back so manyemories. It was the first fragrance that I ever bought. The fact that it's still available today speaks volumes and I would be of the opinion, that this was Calvin Klein's best ever release. Its a warm, spicy & amber-laden fragrance. Bursting with that old school masculinity thats seems to have disappeared lately? Ok so im sure its gone through a number of reformulations & owners over the years. .A dose of the 80's in a bottle with this Oriental/Woody fragrance. It’s known for being dense, resinous, and thick. The opening hits you with a sharp, herbal citrus burst of Bergamot, Lime, and Mandarin, immediately followed by a heavy dose of Cinnamon. It feels warm and slightly fizzy. As the citrus fades, the heart becomes more aromatic. You’ll detect Sage, Lavender, and Myrrh. Then there is that distinctive barbershop soap quality, but it comes across as darker and more exotic due to the addition of nutmeg and pine. A common theme with fragrances that appeal to me is the dry down. This is where Obsession resides. It settles into a creamy, smoky blend of Amber, Vanilla, Sandalwood, and Musk. There is also a slight animalic civetone that gives it a manly edge. Despite the numerous reformulations over the years, This edt still packs a mighty punch, last time I broke this out I got a good 7hrs wear from my usual spray routine. Bear in mind though, this is strong stuff you get extremely good projection for the first 2hrs and can easily go lood a room if over applied. No one wants that scent bubble that wipes out everything in its path right. Again, this is perfect for the cold weather and night time wear. Despite the release of a night version. Best suited for date nights, evening events, or cold outdoor days. Whilst it may not make my top shelf these days, it still has a special place for me and the score reflects its position in my collection.

SOTD 1 and 2 - Red Rum then Tabac Imperial
today was a double header. Started off with Third Eye Fragrance's Red Rum and after about 6hours and it faded to a light skin scent, Versace Tabac Imperial, which is a beautiful photo realistic raw honey and shredded pipe tobacco.

SOTEvening: Mancera Kumkat Wood
The final of five Mancera decants @Thomas Chavez sent over. I’ll give my list of the 5 plus the Cedrat Boise I already own. 1. Aqua Wood 2. Amberful 3. Cedrat Boise (I own a bottle) 4. Instant Crush 5. Kumkat Wood 6. Black Gold I am going to order a bottle of Aqua Wood soon. Now onto Kumkat Wood…. It has a nice grapefruit and spice open on first spray. The grapefruit mixes well with the spices and bergamot. It’s not a sweet spice more of a subtle softness which rounds out the grapefruit and takes some of the edge away. I don’t detect any floral or patchouli in the mid and can only pick up faint hints of amber. My guess would be due to the lingering grapefruit. This frag progresses rather quickly from the top to the dry down where this becomes very woody. It’s a mixture of woods so I couldn’t tell you what I’m smelling other than woodiness. Overall it’s a pleasant woody and citrus fragrance that isn’t anything ground breaking or innovative. For the right price this would be full bottle worthy. As you saw in my list above it’s ranked below some of the others.

SOY Two fresh gym frags in the winter time
So I finally had some time off from work yesterday, and it ended up being very productive. I went to the gym in the morning and wore ( imo ), the freshest of the YSL La nuit del' homme. The blue one... Not Blue electricque, but le parfum. That pepper hits so fresh with the bergamot and lavender. Close 2nd favorite to the EDP and way fresher. Ran some errands and tidied up a bit and I found some extra time! So I went to the gym again in the evening and this time it was at the local rec center, so the gen pop is older. I decided to go with Liam Grey by Lataffa. Pretty close to Gris Charnel with a green tea note and perhaps a little bit of fig ( even though the notes aren't published) Thought it was a great combo and cool that I was able to wear 2 fresh scents on the same cold winter day! Have you tried either of these?

MFK - Oud Satin Mood
I bumped into this scent over the weekend with my wife. This is my first purchase from this house. While I wanted the extrait they were all out 😒. So I had to "Settle" for this EDP. 😎 This one starts off silky smooth and just continues the smoothness all the way to through the dry down. I think the longevity may be a bit week for me, but we'll see how that goes throughout the day. Rose and Amber are the notes I pick up most, with some vanilla in the background. I think "Satin Mood" is a great name as his just feels smooth to me. Have a great Thursday everyone!
