SOTD Aaron Terence Hughes Aura +
Aura+ is one of those fragrances that feels modern, smooth, and attention-grabbing without trying too hard. It has that signature ATH style where everything feels rich, dense, and high quality, but Aura+ comes across cleaner and more versatile than some of the heavier releases. The opening is bright and energetic with a sweet freshness that immediately projects, but it never turns overly sharp or synthetic on my skin. As it settles, it gets creamier and smoother with a musky warmth underneath that gives it a confident, sexy feel. What I like about Aura+ is that it balances freshness and depth really well. A lot of fresh fragrances disappear fast or stay too basic, but this one keeps that strong ATH performance while still feeling easy to wear. It has that compliment-pulling style without smelling like every other designer blue fragrance. There’s a polished, almost glowing quality to it that makes it stand out in the air. Performance is very strong. On my skin I get around 8–12 hours with solid projection for the first few hours. It leaves a noticeable scent trail without needing a ton of sprays. Like most ATH fragrances, spraying lightly is usually enough. Aura+ works especially well during Arizona evenings when it’s still warm outside but cooling down after sunset. In cooler weather it becomes smoother and more sensual, while in hotter weather it keeps that bright energetic feel. Overall, Aura+ feels like a modern mass-appealing fragrance done at a much higher quality level. It’s easy to wear, performs hard, and has that addictive smoothness ATH does really well.

Natif Parfums Swamp Water
Based out of Hammond, Louisiana, is Natif Parfums and the owner, Jarion Clayton, is making bangers right now! If you haven't heard of or tried Swamp Water (his #1 seller), you NEED to get your nose on this! Swamp Water is a true 4-season unisex fragrance that opens with a bright blast of citrus, neroli, bergamot, mandarin, apple, and juicy watermelon. As it settles, the vanilla, amber, patchouli, sandalwood, cedarwood, and aquatic notes come together to create a smooth, fresh, slightly sweet scent that is incredibly addictive. Performance on my skin is outstanding — easily 12+ hours — and the compliments keep coming every time I wear it. Check out Natif Parfums on Facebook when you can and check out his other frags for sure!

SOTD: L'Homme Idéal Extrême Guerlain
Good Morning Brotherhood and Happy Friday. Today is shaping up to be a good one in Chicago, sunny and in the 60s with that crisp start to wake you up. It has been a wild ride of ups and downs these past couple of months, but I’m still grateful to my Creator because His grace is sufficient. Through it all, I’m reminded that adversity does not get the final word. My scent of the day is a new-age classic originally launched in 2020, L’Homme Idéal Extrême by Guerlain. This is such a well-rounded fragrance: sweet, spicy, earthy, nutty, with just a touch of powder. I instantly fell in love with this one when I bought it back in 2021 during the pandemic, so it holds a special place for me. It reminds me that even in difficult seasons, we can still persevere and find moments of joy. On my skin, this fragrance performs beautifully. At 8 sprays, projection is about 6 feet for the first couple of hours, and I’m sitting in a very nice sillage bubble right now enjoying the composition. Longevity is great as well, giving me about 8 to 9 hours on properly moisturized skin. L’Homme Idéal Extrême garners a strong 8.75 from me.

SOTD: Afro Leather by Maison Alhambra 08/05/2026
I guess this was my first introduction to niche fragrances & the reason I believe dupes have a place in the fragrance world. They are affordable gateways into the niche world. Maison Alhambra is a subsidiary of Lattafa which has gained a considerable following for specializing in reverse-engineering high-end niche profiles. Afro Leather is a blatant clone of the Memo Paris classic, African Leather. They never even attempted to hide the fact, even coping the bottle and front design. You never get a perfumer credited with many of these ME houses,The scent is developed by the in-house team at Lattafa Perfumes Industries in the UAE. AL is not an animalic leather. Instead, it is a dry, spicy, and "safari-esque" scent that focuses on the interplay between cardamom and greenery. With opening notes of Cardamom,, Cumin, Bergamot. You are immediately hit with a blast of cool, green cardamom and sharp cumin. It is zesty and aromatic rather than "food-like" spicy. The bergamot provides a fleeting brightness that keeps the opening from being too heavy. At its heart notes of Absolute Geranium, Leather Accord & Saffron combine as the fragrance settles. As the leather emerges It’s a clean, suede-like leather rather than a smoky or dirty leather. The geranium adds a floral, slightly minty freshness that mimics the airy quality of the original Memo fragrance. The drydown contains notes of Patchouli, Oud, Vetiver & Musk. Here the scent moves to an earthier vibe. The vetiver and patchouli create a dry, woody base, while the "oud" note is very subtle, used more for structural depth. Performance for a dupe is rather impressive, with an easy 7hrs on skin. Projection is rather strong for the first 2 hours, then it settles into a consistent, noticeable scent bubble. Again, this is best for the cooler months or evening wear. It has a mature/expensive vibe that suits formal attire or a confident, casual look. In fairness they did a good job here, it's 90% identical to the og which I also own. The Memo original is slightly smoother and uses a more natural-smelling cardamom. Afro Leather is a bit sharper in the opening. Considering the price difference, this is a perfect gateway fragrance.
