To My Brothers A PSA on Reviews and SOTD of Clones: Dua and actually All Clones!!! !!!
After seeing several posts hyping clones and seeing the divisiveness around them, I decided to share my thoughts. When reviewing something like Dua or another clone brand, I think it is fair to acknowledge the original it is inspired by, because that gives proper context. I also think it helps keep the conversation honest instead of making it sound like the clone is basically the OG. Most of the reviews I see tend to hype the clone as if it is just as good as the original, and I think that is where a lot of the confusion starts. A few things I think are worth keeping in mind: - Most clone brands do not really compare to the original once you look at refinement, balance, smoothness, and quality of materials. - Dua can still compete with or even beat plenty of designer fragrances, especially in terms of scent profile and performance. - That is where brands like Dua make the most sense to me: niche-inspired scents at a more affordable price. - A clone may capture the general vibe, but it usually cannot capture the complete profile of the original. - Saying a clone is good for the money is fair. Saying it is better than the OG or describing the quality as close to the OG is where things start getting misleading. It may compete with other clones for the most part, but not the OG. I think where some reviewers and even some members of the Brotherhood of Scent lose people is when they hype clones up like they actually surpass the original. In most cases, that is just not true if you have real experience with perfumery. A clone can absolutely be a good value, a good daily wear option, or a way to enjoy a similar style without the price tag, but that still does not mean it matches the original in refinement, composition, balance, or material quality. This is not me knocking clones or the people who enjoy them. I understand the appeal. I just think the conversation is better when we keep the comparison honest and give people proper context instead of letting hype blur the line between inspired-by and original quality.

Spotting Fakes Series: Episode 1 (Initio)
Hey good people! Unfortunately, one of our brothers in the community recently received a fake bottle. Situations like this really suck, and they happen more often than we think. Because of that, I decided to start a small series on how to spot fake fragrance bottles. The goal is simple: help our community avoid getting scammed. A few basic rules before buying Always ask for pictures before buying. Ask for clear photos of: -Front and back of the bottle -Bottom sticker / batch code -Atomizer without the cap -The box and its bottom label -Fill level Of course, sellers can send fake photos too, but it’s still your first line of defense. Do a quick legit check on the seller. Look at: -How long they’ve been in the group -Previous sales posts -References from other members -Whether their profile looks real or newly created If the price looks too good to be true, there’s usually a reason. Use a trusted middleman (admin) if needed. If you’re not 100% confident in the seller, ask an admin to act as a middleman. How it works: -You send the money to the admin. -The seller sends the bottle to the admin. The admin verifies the bottle is authentic. -If everything is good, the admin sends the money to the seller and ships the bottle to you. It adds a step, but it can save you hundreds of dollars and a big headache. Other important information: -Batch codes: bottle and box should usually match. Some counterfeiters copy codes, but mismatches are a red flag. -Quality of printing: luxury brands have very sharp, precise printing. Blurry text, uneven spacing, or crooked labels are suspicious. -Bottle weight and glass quality: most niche houses use heavy glass and high-quality molds. Fakes often feel lighter or slightly rough around the seams. -Atomizer quality: niche brands usually have smooth, fine mists. Cheap atomizers can feel loose or spray unevenly. -Fragrance performance: this is the least reliable indicator, but if a fragrance disappears in 10 minutes when the original lasts 8+ hours, something may be off.

Fragrance Slang through the Decades
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya! You ever stop and realize that every generation has its own slang? I'm getting to the point of needing a translator just to keep up! Back in the 90s, somebody might say a fragrance was “fresh,” “smooth,” or “the bomb,” and everybody knew exactly what they meant. By the 2010s, we got “beast mode,” “panty dropper,” “mass appealing,” and “niche quality.” Fast forward to the 2020s and folks are talking about “NPC scents,” “main character energy,” “gas,” “mid,” “cooked,” and “aura.” Same hobby, different dictionary! The funny thing is, fragrance language changes just like regular slang does. In the 90s and early 2000s, most guys were keeping it simple. Then the hobby started growing, YouTube took off, online communities exploded, and now all of a sudden we’re speaking in code. A scent ain’t just “good” anymore. Now it’s “versatile,” “designer done right,” “synthetic but pleasant,” “dark academia in a bottle,” or “straight-up date night demon.” Somewhere along the way, smelling nice turned into a full-on linguistics course!! From a Joe A. point of view, I think this is part of the fun. The slang reflects the era and how people experience the hobby. The 2010s felt like performance, projection, compliment factor, and hype. The 2020s feel a little more vibe-driven. Now people care just as much about aesthetic, mood, identity, and whether a scent fits their “energy.” One decade asked, “How strong is it?” The next asks, “What kind of person does this make me feel like?” Truth be told, both sides got a point... But here’s where it gets real interesting. If you’re newer to the hobby, some of this slang can make fragrances sound way more complicated than they really are. A guy says, “This scent is giving mysterious villain arc with expensive NPC side character vibes,” and now you’re standing there wondering if the bottle smells like vanilla or vetiver. That’s why I always like breaking things back down into common-sense language, ya know, Joe A. style!! Under all the slang, all we’re really trying to say is this: Does it smell good? When would you wear it? Who is it for? And does it make you feel like a million bucks or like you got tricked by the internet again?
