Do You Change Yourself And 'Perform' Around Others?
This morning I did a little somatic exploration for myself of feeling the "performing me" to the "authentic me"... soooo... Have you ever noticed yourself showing up a little differently around certain people? Maybe you’re trying to be more put together, more agreeable… doing what you think others might want so you’ll be liked or accepted. And, have you ever felt the difference of that performing you... to the real, authentic you? I was curious, so.. let’s take a moment and feel it… Start by thinking about wanting to do for others, appease others, wanting to look and be accepted by them, and you need to be 'perfect'. As you think about that, how does your body shift? How does a perfect you need to look to others? Shift into it, and really feel it... Then let that soften, feel the surface beneath you supporting you, and feel who you want to be... because you love it, and... maybe you want to be love, be kindness, be genuine, be warmth, but it’s because you want to for you. Now notice your body, your presence, your energy. How does being you feel and look? When I did this exploration for me, I “put on” the perfect me, it felt false, it felt off, rigid, and harsh, and then I settled into me, and really felt the authentic, the raw me and loved it because it was real. My body had softened, and I was in such ease in myself. So you get to choose, which one do you 1. Want to be? And 2. Want to be around? And for me it showed me that I don't need to show up as anyone else but me... because that one is going to be so much more liked, loved and wanted... not the performing me.
