SOTD: Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger 29/04/2026
This brings back memories, Tommy was a definitive Citrus Aromatic fragrance that has became a popular choice for my generation since its debut in 1995. This iconic scent was the result of a collaboration between two legendary Master Perfumers, Alberto Morillas and Annie Buzantian, who aimed to capture the essence of youth and freedom. Often referred to as Tommy Boy, it was a pioneer in using distinctly American-inspired notes, moving away from traditional European perfumery to create something that felt clean, energetic, and contemporary for the mid-90s. The fragrance structure is a masterclass in crisp, refreshing transitions, starting with a bright and zesty opening of mint, bergamot, grapefruit & lavender. This gives an immediate out-of-the-shower freshness that feels both cool and uplifting. As it moves into the middle notes, the scent takes a unique fruity turn with the inclusion of tart cranberry & a crisp Granny Smith apple, which is softened by a subtle hint of rose. The base settles into a clean, slightly woody finish, featuring the unusual notes of cactus & cotton flower, anchored by a warm touch of amber. This combination ensures the fragrance maintains a light, airy quality even as it dries down on the skin. In terms of performance, Tommy offers moderate longevity and projection, typically lasting 4hrs at best. Its sillage is noticeable but polite, creating a fresh bubble without being overpowering, a compliment magnet in close quarters. Woth its bright, citrusy, fruity profile, it is best suited for the spring & summer months, as the heat helps the mint & citrus notes truly shine. It is exceptionally versatile for casual occasions, such as daytime hangouts, school, or office wear, though it remains a nostalgic and reliable choice for anyone looking for a timeless, easy-to-wear signature scent.
