SOTD: By the Fireplace by Maison Margeila 24/04/2026
This is one of the most iconic scents from the Maison Margiela REPLICA collection. It is designed to evoke a specific memory: Chamonix, France, 1971, sitting by a crackling fire in a winter cabin. Released back in 2015 from the nose of Marie Salamagne, it's a Woody/Ambery fragrance. The scent is famous for its realistic smoky opening that transitions into a sweet, comforting gourmand. Upon the first spray, you get a sharp, realistic blast of burning wood and spices, notes include clove & pink pepper, which are balanced out with orange blossom. At the heart, a beautiful Chestnut Accord, Gaïac Wood & Cade Oil. It literally smells like a campfire or a stone fireplace. As it settles, the smokiness mellows out, allowing the roasted chestnut & vanilla to merge. The dry-down is warm, creamy, and slightly sweet., with a blend of Vanilla Accord, Peru Balsam & Cashmeran. A solid seven hrs with this one, and a word of caution. This is powerful juice so spray accordingly. People will definitely notice the smoky-sweet trail you leave behind, but it isn’t suffocating. Best used in cold weather were it can shine brightly If you enjoy cozy vibes and don't mind a literal smoky aroma, this is a masterpiece of atmospheric perfumery.
