SOTD – Mind Games Mentor (Review)
Good morning, Brotherhood! Boy what a rough couple weeks, Im glad to be able to come to a place where I can share what I am passionate about. Today I’m bringing you my personal take on Mentor by Mind Games. Our very own legend @Henry Clay was kind enough to let me give this one a spin and I told him to pick something for me. This choice alone proves the man knows my taste. So be sure to smash that subscribe button and hit like… Wait wrong format. LOL! I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best at pinpointing individual notes, so I wanted to challenge myself and train my nose a bit. Because of that, I intentionally did not look at the note breakdown before wearing it. On the first spray, there was an immediate sense of familiarity that completely hooked me… yet I couldn’t put my finger on it right away. What I got was a juicy sweetness with a deep floral touch. The sweetness felt familiar like a rich, dark fruit, wrapped in rose petals. As it dried down, it settled into this deep yet bright sugary, slightly powdery, smooth resinous vibe that lingered beautifully. After sniffing my hand and clothes for a couple of hours, it finally clicked, this reminded me of a much higher quality Al Nashama by Lattafa. Now before anyone comes for me, hear me out. Both fragrances feature a prominent plum note, and Henry knows how much I love plum. Sure enough, once I finally checked the note breakdown, plum was front and center here. To me, this smells like a ripe plum dipped in caramel, wrapped in fresh rose petals, and lightly dusted with a creamy, powdery iris. The lemon adds just enough lift to keep things from becoming overly dense, and it works beautifully. I know rose and iris aren’t officially listed, but I swear I get traces of them, maybe someone can explain where that’s coming from. My guess is that the powdery feel is coming from the tonka bean and sandalwood combination but not sure of the rose. All in all, I think Mentor is a very beautiful and well composed fragrance. This is a dressed up, formal leaning scent in my book, something that deserves a nice outfit and the right occasion. Since I was working with a decant, I didn’t go full T-Bone mode with 12 sprays. Even with just 6 sprays, I got very good projection, excellent sillage, and consistent wafts for about 4 solid hours, followed by a skin scent that hung around for roughly 7 hours total.

I went to do a good deed for a brother and ended up scouring five fragrance stores, bought in three of them saved a big wad of cash, and spent an even bigger wad. But hey on a bright note, excuse the pun, I finally got that elusive bottle of D&G The One to finish off my 2025 wish list.
