I own several Louis Vuitton fragrances, and to me this is one of the strongest luxury designer fragrance houses on the market. Jacques Cavallier has created a lineup that focuses on exceptional raw materials. The house is built around the idea of craftsmanship, with every fragrance created by the same in-house perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, and produced through Louis Vuitton’s perfume atelier in Grasse France. When people ask me which house makes the best fresh fragrances, my answer is Louis Vuitton. That doesn’t mean every fragrance is perfect or that there aren’t other great fresh releases from niche and designer houses, but as an overall collection, I don’t think anyone does it better. To me, what separates Louis Vuitton is balance. Their fresh fragrances are bright, natural, and incredibly smooth without becoming overly sharp, synthetic, or loaded with harsh ambroxan. The citrus feels realistic, the transitions are seamless, and each fragrance has its own personality while still carrying that unmistakable Louis Vuitton signature. Fragrances like Imagination, L’Immensité, Pacific Chill, Afternoon Swim, and Météore have become reference points for modern fresh perfumery. They smell clean and luxurious rather than simply smelling like shower gel or detergent. They project well, leave a pleasant scent trail, and remain elegant throughout the entire wear instead of peaking in the first hour and disappearing into a flat dry down. While Louis Vuitton is best known for its fresh fragrances, I also think their darker offerings deserve a lot more recognition. Fragrances like Ombre Nomade, Nouveau Monde, Les Sables Roses, and Nuit de Feu show that the house can do rich, smoky, woody, and oud-based compositions with the same smooth blending found in their fresh lineup. They never come across as overly rough or muddy. Instead, they feel refined, luxurious, and wearable while still having depth and character. Even if darker fragrances aren’t your everyday choice, Louis Vuitton proves it can compete in that category just as well.

I make this post partially humorous but also to seriously ask you what your biggest pet peeves that beginners or people not as invested in this hobby as us are. I say outsiders carefully as not to say it in a clique kind of sense. Because I’ve unlocked a pet peeve that’s so weirdly specific, to anyone outside of the bubble, I look psycho! So asking you guys, what are yours? And do any of you relate to this specific one that I have? My biggest, most frustrating issue is so irritating to me because of how ridiculously widespread it is, and it comes with the misconception of cologne, perfume, and gendered fragrances. It strikes a positively DISSONANT chord within me when someone refers to all men’s fragrance as “cologne”. Makes me like unreasonably irritated. Crazy right! But hear me out. One of the biggest misconceptions in fragrance is the idea of A), gendered fragrance, and B), men’s fragrance is all “cologne”. Traditionally, cologne is a concentration of alcohol to oil, and actually one of the weakest concentrations. Most fragrances nowadays for men aren’t colognes at all but Eau de toilettes and Eau de parfums! They don’t wear cologne! They wear perfume! Gendered fragrance in and of itself is a western marketing construct used by companies to get men to start wearing it, to make the market less intimidating and fit in with the stigmas and social values at the time. Along with that, the word “perfume” had a largely feminine connotation, and men at the time did not feel comfortable wearing something with the name of something that sounded so well… feminine. Considering there WERE popular men’s fragrances that were cologne concentrations like from Acqua di Parma, and the word “cologne” sounded rugged, masculine, and less feminine, so it became synonymous with all men’s fragrance. Now as to why this particular stereotype and misconception bothers me so much, I’ll get into that. A), I hate the word cologne. Always have. When I bought my first Versace my girlfriend at the time was like “how’s the cologne?” And bro it bothered me. I wasn’t mad at her or anything lol, but I associate the word with the absolutely terrible chemical bomb my dad would wear with his axe body spray. So when I hear “cologne”, I think of that. Even I look at my older posts and see myself use that word and I criiiiiiinge

Thank you @Lon Chaneyfield for letting me get a decant from you and @Ben E taking care of the shipping, top notch gentleman. This isn't an official side by side post, just my initial thoughts. Myrrh Delight is Dua's take on Rock the Myrrh by Dries Van Noten. Dua did a very good job on this one, but going back and forth, up close you can tell the synthetics used in Dua for the first 10 min. Nothing off putting at all, but you can tell, in the air be hard pressed to notice. On the mid, Dua is a bit thicker, but to be expected as it is Extrait de Parfum vs EDP on the OG. I kinda go back and forth between which I like better. The thicker and more present Dua makes it feel like better bang for buck, but the smooth and refined Dries Van Noten feels more fit and finished like a tailored outfit. As close as they are, I would almost wear them in different situations, it is odd how that fine line is drawn right down between the 2, yet they are so close, but far apart if that makes any sense. Another analogy that comes to my car mind, it's like 1 ton pickup and a 1 ton dually, both very similar and both will do 95% of the same work, but there is that 5% that hugely sets them apart.
