Co-Facilitation - Hit me with the good, the bad and the ugly.
In my 20+ years of facilitation, I've only ever worked with a co-facilitator a handful of times. (And on every occasion it was someone I knew well and had worked with in other contexts.) I've recently been given the opportunity to co-facilitate on a reasonably large programme of workshops, and while I'm not super-passionate about the work being proposed, I'm tempted to say yes just so I can experience co-facilitation on a different level. I'm keen to hear of your experiences co-facilitating (especially if it was with someone you didn't know well to begin with). What do I need to think about / plan for / consider in order for it to work really well? I'm really keen to explore where co-facilitated workshops fit in the mix of things.

Hello @Kerri Price, love the topic and can’t wait to learn more about it from this incredible community. I started my journey by co-facilitating workshops and slowly turn into a facilitator. I think that being able to co facilitate an event has a lot to say about someone. You must be able to set the right chemistry, to be very clear about role and responsibilities and you must know that other facilitators are ok with it. Usually I design the workshop experience with co facilitators from the start in order to set the right environment, timing, tools, activities and everything you need to get the most out of this collaborative experience.
Miro - Digital whiteboard feature that I LOVE
There has been a few comment on Face to Face, Virtual and my most challenging space Hybrid. I have used a few different digital whiteboard apps, but Miro has this great feature called “Stickies Capture”. It allows you to convert your physical post-it notes “Stickies” to digital ones that are fully editable. Just take a photo with your phone and it imports them seamlessly… just make sure that if you have grouped them you spread them out.. This has been helpful to quickly capture face to face outcomes and even in Hybrid for me. Here is a link. “Not a paid promotion” lol https://embed-fastly.wistia.com/deliveries/5d3d68b52d796f5f8f3e2d0589315471.webp?image_play_button_size=2x&image_play_button=1&image_play_button_color=050038e0 What digital whiteboard features are you using and what are you do you love about them.

@Will Stammers Thank you for the heads up on this feature. I love miro too, but since last year I almost used only Figjam cause its so easy to use and practical for partecipant and Mural for internal projects. I have to say that this feature take it to the next level!
Life science and health care facilitation
Hello awesome Facilitators! Just joined the community and looking forward to the collaboration. Curious to know if anyone is from a life science and health care background. I've been running design sprints for 8 years in this area, and looking to connect with anyone venturing down this path. Thanks in advance.

Hello @Tim Daines, I've always been interested in heath care facilitation, and I have some friends that work in this industry. Usually, they said to me that workshop never really hit home and that they have tried everything (consultant, external and internal facilitation, etc..) but with poor results mainly because of the "lack of industry knowledge". You have a lot of expertise in this area, what is your experience and what do you think?
What are your thoughts on Virtual Facilitation?🖥️
As more and more workshops and meetings are being held online, it's important to understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with virtual facilitation. I have found that one of my best practices for virtual facilitation is to create a structured agenda and to stick to it. I also make sure to use interactive tools such as breakout rooms and polls to keep my audience engaged. Another tip that I follow is to actively monitor and manage group dynamics, as it can be more challenging to read the room when working remotely. From building engagement to managing distractions, how do you ensure your virtual workshops are productive and effective? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below and let's start a conversation about virtual facilitation best practices.

Great topic @Rebecca Courtney, I always design remote workshops with icebreakers. The partecipants can play with the software so they'll get use to it trying to complete their first task, and it's also easier to facilitate the meeting/ws when people get to know each other and have a little conversation to break up the initial tension. This is also helpful to understand how we are going to manage time during the workshop.

@Denise Wildner The camera off is definetely a tricky one when its about engaging with partecipant. What I usually do is to bring with me a co-facilitator, this will adds rhythm to the workshop/meeting especially when we need to take notes and/or read post it out loud so everyone can have a chat about it, without forcing them to use post it to write down what they think or what we think it's a crucial information.
Facilitation skills...?
Hello everyone, what skills do you think everyone should learn to become a facilitator? and how did you learn that skill?

@Rebecca Courtney This is what we are doing right now. We have a couple (to 5 max) questions that we'll email them as a survey. We are using likert scales and closed ended questions to measure specific topics and one only open ended question to understand how our facilitation and the ws has been perceived in general.

@Rebecca Courtney Interesting, I willl try to focus more on self-reflection and self-evaluation to try to focus areas of improvements and also I love the idea of a journal! I will definitely try this one too! Thank you!
