Facilitating change in education
Hi everyone! Are there any other education/pedagogy specialists here? I'm working with a team of educators and an amazing school in the US to redefine their pedagogy and approach to teaching that reflects the needs of today's students. I am looking to take my work to other schools and perhaps expand our team of experts. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi @Anna Shildrick , I am a former educator in UK and also do some work for a Google for Education partner alongside my facilitation, which took me to SXSWEdu and ISTE to lead some experientail workshops for educators and school leaders. I have run Design Sprints and workshops with schools and used design thinking techniques back when I was a school leader. I also created this linkedin group but I have neglected it... https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12718780/ I generally found assessment always came crashing in as the destroyer of optimism and ideas when working with educators to define new pedagogical approaches that reflected the wider world we prepare students for. Always happy to chat/connect.
90 minute sprint ideas!
I work in a school and have been asked to brainstorm with a group of middle leaders about how we can work around not having access to a "space" for three weeks when school resumes after summer. We have other spaces, but we are wanting to use some sort of protocol within the Design Sprint ethos to make it fun, engaging and meaningful. We are looking for 'suggested' outcomes at the end of our time together. Is anyone up for the challenge to help me think of how to do this?

Hi Jason, I was a teacher and have used the Sprint and parts of it for schools. I created a free course based on some of this too. Happy to chat about it.
UK Workshop Facilitator and former Maths Teacher
Hi FC! I am Ben, based in West Sussex. After teaching for 13 years I moved into training and began to learn about design thinking and then design sprints. I am building my workshop facilitation business and supplement it with some training around Google for Education for the time-being. I have found the AJ&Smart resources really useful to get a selection of exercises to build custom workshops for a variety of teams. I am exploring liberating Structures to develop more exercises and grow my workshop facilitation expertise. Excited to grow and learn with this community. Maybe a London event or meetup for anyone in this part of the world...

@Shelley McKeating You too!
Let's talk about Icebreakers
Sometimes when people hear the word 'icebreaker' they cringe or might feel super anxious about taking part in one. Yes, icebreakers can make you feel a bit awkward initially, but they are proven to help enhance relationships and encourage creativity. 'Icebreakers can help increase team bonds, boost performance and creativity'โ€”Harvard Business School study Integrating icebreakers into your workshops or meetings is a great way to get everyone relaxed and ready to participate. But how do you choose the right ones so that you avoid those dreaded awkward silences? Here are my Top 2 Icebreakers that are easy to implement (in-person or online): 1. My First Job Ask everyone in the group to write down their name, their first job, and what they learned from that job. Then go round the group and have everybody read theirs out. 2. Pointless Questions Prepare a few fun questions ahead of the workshop, then go round the room and have everybody take turns answering the questions. Itโ€™s as simple as thatโ€”you donโ€™t even need to write anything down! Here are some question suggestions to get you started: - If you could invite a celebrity over for dinner, who would it be and why? - What is your most prized possession and why? - You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life. What do you choose? Here are some more icebreakers for you to explore! What's another great icebreaker that I can add to my list?

@Rebecca Courtney There were some very significant feel, see contributions for the children. However, the group of people see this day in day out so it was sensitive but manageable. As a former teacher (like yourself) I find situations I encountered in school have prepared me well for facilitation.

@Nancy Lhoest-Squicciarini Hi Nancy! ๐Ÿ™Œ Awesome to see you here. Will definitely check them out.
What is in your facilitation kit? ๐Ÿ’ผ
I would like to create a facilitation kit for on the road and also a organised kit for in house. I'm wondering what kinds of things everyone would put in their kits. I can come up with: - Sticky notes ๐Ÿ—’๏ธ - Sharpies ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ - Voting dots ๐Ÿ”ด - Time timer โฒ๏ธ - ... ...and also where do you put all those things in? Is it a plastic box, a suitcase or something else? Please leave your thoughts in the comments, maybe my new kit is created by all of your input.๐Ÿ™‚

In addition to the sticky notes, pens and timers I like to add some bunting, pipe cleaners, Lego and bits for prototyping as well as clipboards for walking reflections. I capture this in the beginning of this video about a recent workshop I delivered, here is a still...
