Training when you’re unwell
I spent years, pushing myself to train when all I wanted to do was lay around and feel sorry for myself. It made me hardcore, gave me the opportunity to feel slightly superior to other lesser mortals, but also lead to injuries and lack of progress.
Im currently full of plague. As you know, I train outdoors, so am at the mercy of the weather. Thursday was leg day, and it was dry, so I cracked on. Head spinning, lungs wheezing, feeling like crap. Romanian deadlift, weight increase, set 1x5 reps, set 2x4 reps. Im the man! Squat, weight increase, head whirling. Set 1x5 reps, set 2, into the hole and never came out. Weight dumped in the catchers. End ex, game over. I staggered indoors and my wife said, ‘why do you train when you’re I’ll?, you keep saying you’ve got no energy’.
Why? Bulldog spirit or rank stupidity? It’s a tricky one. A friend relayed a similar story to me the other day, my tongue in cheek reply, ‘there’s no fool like an old fool’.
