If you want your life to be more peaceful and productive immediately... Get used to saying the word "No." Had I learned the value of saying this word sooner... I would have spared myself a lot of time... A lot of energy... A lot of frustration... ...and a lot of disappointment. There is nothing wrong with saying no. It's not rude. It's not selfish. It's not inappropriate. Oftentimes ... it's what the other person needs to hear to bring awareness to their shortcomings and allow them the opportunity to improve themself. Whether they choose to take advantage of that opportunity or not is up to them. Not you. By saying "No"... You're actually acting in their best interest just as much as your own.
