Hi from New Zealand - returning to YouTube...
Hi! I'm Niky, I've been in leadership for over 18 years, still in a senior leadership job with 2 young kids, building my business in the gaps and I'm thinking about coming back to YouTube after a 5-month break.
Quick backstory: I posted consistently for months then increased my volume to two long form videos a week for just over 8 months. Tons of videos...I gave it everything and I ended up with about 400 subscribers. I finally got the message that something wasn't working. πŸ˜‚
My reflection is that my content was too broad and too focused on general leadership AND because I was still in my 9-to-5 senior leadership job, I was too worried about what others would think if they stumbled across it....
Since then I have rebuilt my business around helping people who are still in their 9-to-5 build a business using the skills and experience they already have and sharing the tools and resources that I use to make this possible. I've also signed a conflict of interest declaration with my employer so I don't have to panic about being 'seen' (honestly no one cares anyway πŸ˜‚).
So I've pivoted. New direction, much clearer audience, and this time I think I'm going in with one video a week instead of two because I'm still working full time and have a young family and two-a-week nearly broke me. πŸ˜…
I want to do this smarter this time rather than just harder.
For anyone who has successfully pivoted their channel topic or come back after a break, what would you do differently knowing what you know now?
Happy to be here and looking for wisdom from people who have figured more of this out than I have! 😊
