Fragrance House Reviews. My Honest Take Next up Day Three Fragrances (Niche/Artisan) !!!
I own the entire Day Three lineup, and to me this is one of the most underrated American artisan fragrance houses out there. The brand doesn’t rely on hype or flashy marketing. Instead, it focuses on quality compositions, creativity, and wearable fragrances that stand on their own. You can tell a lot of thought goes into each release, and most of them have their own identity rather than chasing whatever is trending. What really stands out to me is the quality of the materials and the blending. The fragrances smell smooth, natural, and refined from opening to dry down. They transition well throughout the wear instead of feeling linear or synthetic. Whether it’s a fresh release like Frost, a gourmand, or something darker and richer, they all feel like they belong to the same house because of the attention to detail. Another thing I appreciate is the variety. There is something for almost everyone without the lineup feeling repetitive. You have fresh, tropical, gourmand, woody, spicy, and darker offerings, yet most of them maintain their own personality. I never get the feeling that the house is simply releasing flankers or slightly tweaking the same DNA over and over again. Performance is solid across the line. Some fragrances project more than others because that is simply the style of the scent, but I judge performance by how well a fragrance actually works—not whether it lasts 16 hours or fills an entire room. Day Three fragrances generally have good projection, a noticeable scent trail, and respectable longevity while remaining well-balanced. Cons No house is perfect. Because Day Three is a smaller artisan brand, availability is more limited than designer fragrances, and you won’t find it in department stores. The fragrances also carry artisan pricing, which may be more than someone used to buying designers or clone fragrances wants to spend. While I appreciate that many releases are unique, a few may be more artistic or specific in their appeal and won’t be as universally loved as a typical blue designer fragrance.
Fragrance House Reviews. My Honest Take Next up Yves Saint Laurent (Designer) !!!
Yves Saint Laurent is one of the better designer fragrance houses because, for the most part, they understand what people actually want to wear. They make fragrances that are attractive, versatile, modern, and easy to reach for without smelling cheap or poorly put together. YSL is not always the most original house, especially with some of its newer releases, but originality is not the only thing that matters. A fragrance still has to smell good, wear well, and serve a purpose in a collection. YSL usually does that better than a lot of designer houses. The Y line is probably the easiest example. Y Eau de Parfum is not some groundbreaking artistic fragrance, but it is a very effective modern blue scent. It is fresh, sweet, aromatic, youthful, and strong enough to get noticed. It works casually, at work, on a date, or going out at night. It is one of those fragrances that covers a lot of situations without requiring much thought. The different Y flankers also give people options. Some are fresher, some are darker, and some are smoother or more mature. There can be some redundancy within the line, but they are not all exactly the same fragrance in different bottles. Someone who really enjoys the Y DNA can find enough differences to justify owning more than one, although most people probably do not need the entire line. La Nuit de L’Homme is still one of the most important fragrances YSL has made. The cardamom opening is immediately recognizable, and the overall scent is smooth, warm, spicy, and seductive without becoming overly sweet or heavy. It became a standard for date-night fragrances, and a lot of releases that came after it were clearly trying to capture the same feeling. The biggest complaint with La Nuit de L’Homme is performance. It smells great, but depending on the version, it can sit closer to the skin and fade faster than people expect. That does not make it a bad fragrance, but it does make the retail price harder to justify. A fragrance can smell excellent and still deserve criticism if the performance does not match the cost.
Crazy layering combo but it totally works: The One EDP + Full House (Imagination)
It’s a clammy, cool-ish rainy day here in Seattle and I was wondering what to wear tonight. It still feels a bit too warm for cool weather frags but too cool for warm weather frags. So I thought hey it’s the perfect time to wear both at the same time! The result: I layered some OG The One EDP with my Game of Spades Full House (a dupe of Imagination, which along with that OG or any other Imagination dupes would probably work just as well in this layering combo). This combo is amazing. The crisp aromatic fresh spicy open of The One is a perfect complement to the zesty soapy clean open of Full House. I’m getting a feeling of complexity coming off this combination - I’m definitely getting some spiciness from The One’s cardamom and Full House’s cinnamon, there’s a double dose of ginger and sparkly orange blossom from both, some powdery tobacco from The One and a hint of tea from Full House. After the initial citrus fades from each of those, this combo comes into its own as a fresh spicy ambery delight. I particularly like this combo because it’s not especially sweet - it has just enough to round things out without being too dry. Neither of these frags are built to last especially long, and the combo is no different… but man while these are going, they are singing together in harmony. Yeah I am really enjoying this one. So if you’re getting a little bored of the Imagination DNA, or maybe you were missing that DNA but it’s a cool summer evening or you’re in a heavily air conditioned environment and it doesn’t feel quite right to wear it, try hitting it with some blasts of The One EDP. Now I’m wondering what else I can spice up with The One… I got the giant bottle of it a year ago and even with relatively frequent use in my cool weather rotation, I still have a mostly full bottle left - so even though it’s been discontinued, I don’t mind using it as a layering scent in warmer months. You guys ever try using it as a layer? Any other great combos?
