Bought this a couple weeks back but wanted to test it a few times first before reviewing. Yes it’s low budget, not even £15 ($19 in the US) and I was pleasantly surprised, I didn’t expect this.

In the opening I’m greeted with a whole lot of sweetness and fruitiness from the plum and cacao. The cacao is quite prominent from the get-go - it blends with the Mirabelle plum, a fruit that is new to me but it works really well. This gets better as it progresses, with the pink pepper adding a slight spicy twist. The plum note also settles a bit after about 10 minutes. I think Asad Bourbon’s choice of infusing plum with cacao is quite unique.

I don’t get the lavender too much in the opening, comes more in the mid I feel, brings a soothing touch to the background. It’s like it’s slightly present alongside the spicy nutmeg and pink pepper.

On the dry down I do sense what i think is the vanilla due to a sugary sweetness, blending with the amber and vetiver. I’m still learning about the notes and how they smell so part of my assumption is what these notes are coming across as to me.

Longevity 7+ hours before it tones down to a skin scent

Projection 2-3ft which after about 4hrs it probably drops to a foot or so.

I did read a few reviews before buying as this was a blind-buy, more positive reviews than negative but I think the bad reviews were posted without thought, it wasn’t given a chance. My first impression of the original Asad I wasn’t too impressed being honest so i’m giving that more time to macerate before giving a proper review. I haven’t purchased Asad Zanzibar yet, heard a lot of negative reviews but these days, even with fragrances, somebody’s junk is somebody’s treasure, so I’ll no doubt purchase at some point to complete the trilogy. Can’t grumble at the price.
