So I saw some videos recommending Gucci Guilty Elixir, and decided to order a decant. I had gotten my nose on it at a duty free shop, but I probably sniffed like 30+ frags at that shop so my nose was pretty burned out, but from what I could tell it wasn't offensive and wouldn't be a disastrous decant blind buy like some of my others (I'm looking at you, Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir EDP). Well, the decant finally came yesterday and I've been rocking it today. I like it!
It has a lovely orangey floral vanilla open that stays masculine the entire way despite the mildly sweet florals. I don't really get the nutmeg, but I do get something unusual, I think it's the pimento seed -- that note probably moves the overall scent away from "crowd pleasing" but is no way unpleasant, and it equally moves the scent closer to "unique". It's lovely into the mids, just a buttery mildly sweet orangey goodness carried on a cloud of warm ambroxin. A few sprays on my hand hours ago and I am still smelling it as I'm typing this, so projection is good -- and given it's still going strong, I'm expecting longevity of min 6-8 hours. I could see wearing this by day at the office, evening dinner, date night, suited up or dressed down... seems very versatile to me. I've smelled Amouge Reflection and it is mildly reminiscent of that fragrance, but I wouldn't say it's a clone by any measure.
Is it full bottle worthy though? The category I'm considering this for is "cool weather day/evening/luxe" and it's going to go up against Myslf EDP, Armani Code EDP and the dark horse in the running JPG Scandal Absolu for the coveted full bottle spot... decants of those three are still in transit, but I couldn't wait to try the GG Elixir. I like it, but it's going up against some titans, and there can be only one... (in my collection, anyway). Will let y'all know which one wins! But if you find GG Elixir at a big discount and there's room in your collection, I'd definitely say it's worth considering.
