Can a fragrance be age inappropriate?

recently posted that he was going to try a sample CH Bad Boy but he was wondering if maybe it was too youthful. I can certainly understand how a fragrance can seem too youthful for an older gentleman based on the bottle. Me? I REFUSE to buy anything that may come in a bottle that looks like a; trophy, gold bar, lightning bolt, child's toy or a robot. I just don't want to look at those things on my shelves. Fragrances are expensive and as a 68 year man, I think they're silly and I'd feel ridiculous! However, I have no problem buying a clone or "insprired by" the same fragrance if I happen to like the fragrance. The same is true for the name on the bottle. I'll never buy Versace Blue Jeans (aside from the fact the bottle is not to my liking.) That name (and appearance) might as well have "For Junior High Boys Only" plastered right on the label! Anyway, that's just me...

But what would make a fragrance "too youthful" for someone like me? Hawas for Him by Rasasi is supposed to have a "bubble gummy" note (like a number of other fragrances.) Does THAT make it too youthful? I mean what "mature" guy wants to walk around smelling like bubble gum? Or for that matter, does a mature guy want to smell like a French pastry? I see plenty of older influencers that absolutely ADORE the sweety, sweety, gourmandy stuff. But you never really know if they're being honest.

On the other hand, I see teenagers buying very sophisticated niche fragrances VERY often! And I get the point that says, "if you like it, wear it!" But again, can a fragrance be age inappropriate, especially for the more mature crowd? Is it like a 70 year old woman putting glitter in her hair like a little girl going to a boy band concert?

Most things are marketed to a target group; cars, clothes, vacation destinations, etc. I think the same is true with fragrances. Am I wrong?
