How DOING NOTHING can make you a better copywriter
This is one more lesson I've learned by writing fiction. Its also extremely important if you wish to write for a living. So here goes: Do nothing. That's it. But here's the thing... You should only do nothing AFTER you've finished writing your copy. Let me explain: When you write, your brain is on writing mode (obvious I know, but stay with me). That is, its focused in writing and getting the piece of copy done. However, editing and polishing are different from writing. At least your brain thinks that way. 🧠 This means it'll be harder for you to edit your copy and ensure it achieves the best results possible. So after you finish it, give it a rest. Read a book, go for a walk outside, take a quick nap. ANYTHING BUT WRITING. If you have the time, specially when its long form copy, give it an entire day off. You'll be amazed how you'll see things differently once you come back. For example: You'll find basic mistakes you let slip by, or even the new and more effective angles your copy could tackle. All because you won't be on "writing mode" anymore. Of course, in some cases you simply won't have the time. But as you get better at writing for clients and tweaking your schedule... Make sure to carve some time to just let the copy (and your brain) breathe a little. Your copy and your clients will thank you for it. Happy writing. ✍️ – Hugo

@Lauren Hazel Exactly. When I take some projects I always include one day to let the copy rest (the client doesn't need to know this of course lol). When this is not possible, at least a quick walk or 30min-1h away from the project helps too.

@Zora Cao the shower is a fertile space for ideas. Doing the dishes also works wonders for me, I even said to my wife that I'm the only one who'll do it at home. She's happy and I get to have more ideas. Everyone wins LMAO
How this SIMPLE adjustment can make you learn copy 2x faster
Hey guys, For this tip to work, you must first complete the lessons in the classroom section. Learn about the Translation Process, then come back to this post. Otherwise, you risk not even knowing what to look for. Okay? Now we can begin speeding up your copywriting learning process. Maybe you already do this, but I was surprised by how much time I lost by not making this quick adjustment. Here’s what I mean: As fiction writers, we’re taught to read a lot of books. Read and write, read and write. That’s how you get better. In copy, it’s the same thing. You read and you write. However, in fiction, we have to actively go after new books to read. It’s an active process. Not in copywriting. Ads come to you. They’re trying to sell you something every minute. That is, unless you’re like me and use an AD BLOCKER. And that was my mistake. If you want to write ads, you’ll have to read a lot of ads. So why use an ad blocker if it means you’ll see fewer ads? For example, I spent a whole year wondering why people didn’t use advertorials anymore. The thing is, people still use them. A LOT. I just wasn’t seeing them. 😅 When I turned my ad blocker off, I started getting lots of ads, and that gave me tons of opportunities to practice. You’ll be surprised by how many bad ads are out there, just waiting for you to read and improve. “But Hugo, I don’t want to see a bunch of ads!” That’s fair. You can use a separate browser for 1 hour a day and just let all the ads hit you. That’s free practice. You won’t need to dig through sites for classic sales letters from 50 years ago or anything like that. You’ll get ads and campaigns that are selling RIGHT NOW. Most of them will be trash? Sure. But that’s where you come in. And hey, maybe you’ll see an ad for a product you like, make it better, and use it to land a job at that same company. Now it’s your turn. Give that Brave Browser of yours some rest and go read some ads. ✍️ – Hugo

@Richard Beas Well, for years brazilians have been known to be good at marketing, specially on commercials and branding. There's lots of brazilians in those areas. We've always had copywriters but I think the real boom happened during the pandemic. That's when people woke up to the potential of DR Marketing. And since we brazilians love to interact with the rest of the world, it was only natural to be present in DR Marketing everywhere, not just here in my country. Can't confirm any of that but from what I've seen, that's the reason basically.

What to do when the client never sent an email for his list before?
Hey everyone, this is my first post here. Recently I got to talk with some potential costumers and one of them has a list of over 10k people. However, he never sent anything to them before. I offered him storytelling emails to connect and make offers, you know the gist. However I've never encountered a client that has a dormant list before. Usually they were already sending emails, though not with the story/focus connection. What would you guys advice in this situation? Thanks in advance!
