apply what you learn by creating action items for your own life
Cindy Bidar said this in a recent email: On the Bookworm podcast, Mike Schmitz and Cory Hixson read and discuss self-development/productivity books twice each month. They offer up the highlights, talk about what they loved (and didn't), and make thoughtful recommendations about other books listeners might enjoy. The best part though, is that they don't just read the books. They apply what they learn by creating action items for their own lives. Then they kick off the next episode with a recap of their plans and a review of how it played out. This is often the missing piece for me—maybe for you, too. Have you ever bought a course and binge-watched all the videos without stopping to ask, "What will I do with this?" Have you ever read (and even highlighted) a great book without ever asking, "How can I apply this to my life?" Have you listened to podcasts, read blog posts, favorited Tweet threads, saved reels, or screenshotted meaningful quotes, then never revisited those ideas that had you thinking, "This is good stuff! I need to remember it!" I am guilty of doing all of those things. I sometimes even come across my notes and screenshots and think (again), "This is good stuff!" before stuffing it back into my notebook, where it is once again lost. I'm done with that. Instead, I'm committing to intentional content consumption. https://bookworm.fm/
