Humans can survive with immediate gratification and external validation but we cannot thrive. To thrive we must have hope. Hope for deeper belonging and fulfillment. Hope for growth and significant service. Hope for increased freedom and meaning in life.
These are the big game hunts that activate our genius, inspiration and full engagement. It is flow state and the pursuit of purpose. It is the aspirational vision of a future that does not currently exist.
Napoleon calls leaders “Dealers in hope” and they will always be initially doubted by the hopeless. To the cynical, hope looks like unrealistic absurdity, however everything great in human history came from hopeful, aspirational dreams. When leaders lose this, they are no longer leaders and become managers at best.
Hope is the sail. Doubt is the anchor. They both have their purpose but reflect deeply on what your ship is built to do. Write down and share you personal vision for your life!
