Cognitive dissonance
Most people have never heard of it.
But it’s quietly running their life.
Here’s what it is:
→ When your actions don’t match who you believe you are
And your brain hates it.
So it does one of two things:
→ Changes your behaviour
→ Or lies to protect your identity
Most people choose the lie.
You say:
→ “I want to grow my business”
But you:
→ Avoid sales calls
→ Underprice your service
→ Procrastinate on decisions
Now you’ve got tension.
So your brain steps in and says:
→ “Now’s not the right time”
→ “The market’s tough”
→ “I just need to learn a bit more first”
That’s not strategy.
That’s self-protection.
Here’s the shift most people miss:
You don’t become successful
Then act like it
You act like it
Then your brain catches up
If you want to use this instead of being controlled by it:
Do this:
→ Decide who you are becoming
→ Act in line with that identity immediately
→ Let the discomfort hit
→ Don’t back off
Because your brain will do everything it can to remove that tension.
And if you don’t change the action…
It will change the identity.
Example:
→ Start charging properly
→ Start saying no
→ Start showing up like a leader
At first it feels uncomfortable.
Then it feels normal.
Then it becomes you.
Most people wait to feel ready.
That’s backwards.
You act first.
You feel after.
So here’s the question:
Where in your life are your actions not matching the person you say you want to be?
Fix that…
And everything else starts to move.
