Knowledge Management; What I started doing...and you? 📚
Some time ago I asked for your advice on having a system for organizing notes and general ideas.
In the last week I build one system that perfectly fit with my requirements so today I'm more than happy to share it with you:
-------
Context:🔍
I use two tools: Notion & Obsidian.
Notion is more goal oriented (project, deadlines, task, collaborations on projects).
Obsidian is more knowledge oriented (idea, notes).
I will talk only about how I organize Obsidian since it's the focus on this post.
-------
I use 4 folder Capture, Organize, Distill, Express and the process is pretty much this:
Capture-->Organize-->Distill-->Express
It's also know as CODE method.
Step 1) Capture:✍️
In this folder I take notes of my thoughts, Idea, Page Savings from Blog Posts, Notes From Youtube Videos, Notes from Books, Notes from smarthphone ect... (You can automate a lot of these import with the right tools)
Step 2) Organize:📚
To organize myself I start looking for similar contents in the "capture folder" to link together and the consequence is that I also start doing some space repetition. When I find many topics that talk about the same subjects I link them together so in the future it will be easy for me to switch between similar ones.
Step 3) Distill:📑
Here I eliminate the superfluous to extract the juice from the information I just organized. This step helps me to do space repetion too since I will read again my organized content but know with they key insights more defined.
Step 4) Express:📢
When you have lots of great distilled notes you can take and create quality contents (both for yourself and others). You can script your next blog post, newsletter or video.
Let me know what you think!
Also feel free to share your method or systems in the comments so we can help other members as well with the knowledge management 😉
