A week or so ago, there was a discussion about what not to throw into a urinal. My suggestion was simple: instead of posting a list of prohibited items, give us something to aim at. Human nature tends to handle the rest. Fast forward to last week. I landed in Cancún, cleared customs, headed to the airport restroom, and was greeted by what appears to be Mexico’s solution—a miniature soccer goal complete with a ball hanging in the middle of the urinal. Whether it’s leftover World Cup fever or simply a brilliant bit of restroom engineering, I have no idea. I didn’t even notice if there was a sign above it, because by then my attention had already been… properly directed. Sometimes the best way to change behavior isn’t another warning sign—it’s giving people a game they can’t resist playing. I have to admit, this may be the most effective piece of “behavioral economics” I’ve ever seen in a men’s room. ⚽🚹
