New Blue Linen Suit
The beauty of this outfit lies in its balance of cool and warm tones, combining a light blue linen suit and navy polo with rich cognac horsebit loafers. The breathable textures of linen and knit create a relaxed sophistication that feels polished without appearing overly formal. Light blue patterned socks add personality while seamlessly connecting the suit to the footwear. The titanium TAG Heuer chronograph echoes the outfit’s blue palette and introduces a sporty, masculine edge through its brushed metal finish and bold dial. Finished with Bleu de Chanel, the entire ensemble projects confidence, refinement, and effortless style—the hallmarks of a modern gentleman.

These Shoes are made for Walking…
While my new New Balance 990s may never occupy the same place in the wardrobe hierarchy as a pair of Allen Edmonds or Florsheim dress shoes, but they excel in the role they were designed for: putting in serious miles with comfort and support. The combination of substantial cushioning, stability, and durable construction makes them exceptionally well-suited for daily 10K–15K walks and gym sessions, which is precisely where the 990 lineage has earned its reputation. New Balance’s 990 series was originally conceived as a premium performance running shoe and continues to be praised for its all-day support and comfort-focused design. As for casual wear, that is strictly verboten—these are workhorses, not fashion accessories, and every step they take should be in service of fitness rather than leisure.

Well, everyone has their own taste and his is terrible. Not everyone can have our level of refinement and taste. Thanks for commenting.
The Golden Rule vs the Platinum Rule
Unfortunately, we live in an era in which many men have forgotten—or perhaps were never taught—how to dress with intention. What was once considered a basic expression of self-respect and social awareness has gradually been replaced by a culture that often celebrates indifference, with many accepting an unkempt appearance as the new normal. I would submit that the ability to procure, coordinate, and build a stylish wardrobe is a skill set foreign to most men today. We often assume these principles are common knowledge, but the evidence suggests otherwise. This reminds me of the distinction between the Golden Rule and the Platinum Rule. The Golden Rule tells us to treat others as we would like to be treated. The Platinum Rule goes a step further, encouraging us to treat others as they would like to be treated. In the same way, many style enthusiasts assume others possess the same foundational knowledge of clothing, fit, color coordination, and presentation that they do. They do not. If we genuinely wish to elevate the standard of dress among men, we must begin where they are, not where we assume they should be. Style, after all, is not an innate gift bestowed upon a fortunate few. It is a learned discipline—a combination of education, observation, and deliberate practice. Before a man can master the nuances of texture, proportion, and color harmony, he must first be taught the fundamentals. Only then can he develop a wardrobe that not only reflects his personality but also communicates confidence, competence, and respect for both himself and those around him.

@Chad Smith Normally, I’m not a big hoops fan. However, since I live in San Antonio, I’ve got to pull for the home team.

@Chad Smith Yes, this remindes me years ago when we first move to Tampa Bay...and they won the SuperBowl. I've been a Buccaneer fan ever since. And, NO! I will NEVER be a Dallas Cowboys fan. Not going to drink the cool-aide!
A Teaching Moment
While sharing a delightful dinner with my son, and guests at a lovely restaurant this past weekend, I observed the disappointingly relaxed sartorial choices made by several men in our vicinity. My son, gently dismissed my observation by stating that their appearance was not his problem, I recognized a profound opportunity to offer a loving correction regarding the philosophy of personal presentation. I shared with him Tom Ford’s enduring wisdom, which posits that presenting oneself with intentional elegance is never about vanity, but rather serves as a fundamental expression of respect for the shared environment and the people within it. I furthered my point that my deepest hope is that he will always carry himself with the grace and dignity that honors not only his own character, but also the world he navigates, elevating every space he enters.
