When negotiating a salary keep this in mind: When applying for a position, when fill out the application where is says desire salary write “open” this leaves it open for discussion. Then when you have your interview, moment they asked “what are your salary expectations?” You were placed in a trap. If you say a number under they will pay you less, but if you say a number too high, they disqualify you. Use the reverse, instead and put the pressure back on them. Say “I’m sure for roll of this level you have a budgeted range. Can you share with me what that is so we can be efficient on time,” they have to give you a number. Then once they say it, You say “That’s a great starting point for a base, but I’m more interested in the total compensation package. What do you have?” Never show your cards until you see what they have to offer. Keeping this in mind when you are negotiating your worth will help you receive what you feel you are worth, and not be undervalued or under paid. You’ve earned it you worked hard for it now go get it.
