People Notice

One of my co-workers is moving on to be a director of engineering. He said to me today that I am one of the most consistently sharp dressed people he has worked with. I know - I don't dress sharply enough to be the exemplar of men's office fashion, but I wear a dress shirt that fits and some almost reasonable, but slightly lacking, pants. But my shoes are sharp. And that is what caught his attention. He noted how the leather quality and the color was just the best. They are brown Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenues, and I keep them in shape. We chatted a bit about dressing nice and leaving good impressions or avoiding negative impressions. Then we talked about an executive 'coach' he is consulting with, and that was a great chat. I even thought it could be worthwhile chatting with this coach as a dedicated contract worker, just to see if there any opportunities I might be leaving on the table. So, people are paying attention.
