Weekly Running Round Up
Not much to talk about this week, I guess ;) Well now What a day at the London marathon I'll be honest Having two young kids, I was doing my daddy duty So I wasn't watching it Then I scanned the BBC Sport app and saw "He has 1 minute to break the 2-hour mark" Then I saw the iconic picture of Sabastian Sawe with the 1:59:30 above his head And then I saw Yomif Kejelcha THEN I saw Jacob Kiplima All three broke the previous world record, and two under 2 hours Incredible Let's not forget Tigst Assefa breaking the women's only course record as well I can't review as well as the guys at Marathon Talk did, so please check out their podcast I want to talk about YOU I want to talk about what's possible Because we can all learn from this Not about running that fast, but challenging limits That's the game here I have spoken to some amazing people I have seen people do incredible things Just because they were willing to see what was possible We had an amazing month here at 12 months to marathon Real people with real results All incredible results, yet very simple to achieve Structure, support, and the right feedback No hype, fluff, complication, or technical jargon Just practical tips to help over-35s run their best marathon That's what we do Fancy some of that? You are welcome to listen to some of my interviews Ordinary people, extraordinary results Drop me a reply and let's chat. Until next time. John

Weekly Running Round Up
Okay, London marathon day (maybe for you) Unbelievable event. So glad I have been fortunate enough to experience it twice. If you are there today and it's your first time? You are about to experience something incredible Go well and soak it all in Now then, let's talk about something that kicked off last week Joe Wicks (bless him) Joe got himself in trouble for giving dodgy marathon advice Which, in truth, was him talking about his own experience So a Faux Pas yes, but not the disaster some are making out The truth? Joe Wicks is a PR machine, and the London Marathon is using him to promote Daddy Pig running the race That's it. I am not that bothered about what Joe said He isn't a marathon runner or coach I am more bothered that people are listening to his advice There are going to be some people running today (and every other day) who are MASSIVELY underprepared There are going to be some people following all sorts of random sugar, honey, ice, and tea off the internet First timers taking advice from sub 2:30 runners Inexperienced runners taking advice from influencers who get free spots in the majors and rep every product going Nothing wrong with fast runners, influencers, and even Joe The problem is, we lose grasp of common sense If you are a runner over 35 and you want to run a marathon or improve on a subsequent one? You need to speak to someone who has done that And if you read or hear something online that doesn't seem right? That's because it probably isn't If you have a marathon on your horizon in the next 6-12 months? Ignore the noise The key is getting simple and practical advice from learned experience Easy? Nope. Simple? I hope so ;) Drop me a reply and let's chat. Until next time. John

Running Round Up
Blimey, a lot to unpack at the minute Let's start with last weekend 16th marathon for me at the 48 (nearly 49) 3:05 after a run of two halves (or a tail and then a headwind) I am very fortunate and blessed to be able to do what I do So no crying in my coffee, but room for improvement ;) But this is not about me This is about the 3 members of my running community who ran marathons (all in Brighton) Two debuts and one aiming for a PB Neil ran a 2:57 PB and his fastest in 10 years at the age of 41 Scott ran 4:34 in his marathon debut at age 42 Ruth ran 6:30 in her marathon debut at age 54 All different and all amazing in their own right You can listen to Neil's story on my podcast this week (the link is at the bottom) We have three more in Manchester today as well The results do the talking here So, if you want to see what's possible for you?
