Dare I say it, there is a little whiff of Spring in the air And if you are doing a Spring marathon? The "business" end starts soon This is usually weeks 8-14 For me, weeks 11-13 are the peak weeks Loads of volume But that's where you really build the marathon runner See, a marathon is a mix of things And you need to do one to really experience it It's a complex cocktail of physical and mental sensations But it's all manageable Some people find marathon running easy I am serious Some people could go and run a marathon tomorrow at a faster pace than you or I could only dream of But that's not everyone Most people who attempt this are just, well, normal people And by that I mean "non-athletes" So if you find yourself getting dragged into threads, feeds, and posts from high-performing athlete types? It may make you question yourself Don't do that While I believe that everyone needs to follow a similar path in training (we all have to run 26.2 miles at the end of it after all) You can't judge your performance or mindset with other people's metrics This is probably the biggest challenge first-time marathoners face Yes, even more than the training The good news? With the right structure and support? You can manage it and handle it You just need to know where to get that help Drop me a reply if you want to chat Until next time. John
