Attached image shows the top 10 hedge fund manage return from Bloomberg.
They didn't calculate and sort by return %. So I fixed it and updated the table as below.
SPY went up 26% in 2023.
My portfolio went up 53% in 2023.
For hedge funds, you will see this dataset shows they range between 26% (on par) to 9% (underperforming).
For hedge funds, they don't usually outperform the market (the larger they are, the harder it is to make a higher return). But they do offer low correlation with S&P 500 (for some of them).
As hedge fund data are mostly incomplete, you will also find other tables / sources which advertise a higher return. I believe a good % of hedge funds should be making more than 26% but didn't make it in this table from Bloomberg.
