As I’ve begun my investment journey, I’ve been reflecting on what retirement truly means to me.
Previously, I thought of it as the traditional definition—ending my work life entirely.
However, these days, I think “micro-retirements” may actually suit me better. I still want to work, but not as hard, and I want the flexibility to take significant time away from work whenever I choose. In other words, a work-optional lifestyle.
Obviously, this all depends on the organization you work for and whether extended time off is even possible. In my husband’s and my case, it thankfully works—and we also have the benefit of working from home, which has made life so much more flexible already.
Since this is the Retire and Invest community—what does retirement look like to you? Is it a clear final chapter, or more of an ongoing lifestyle choice?
