This time of the year
As we head toward the Chinese New Year and the upcoming solar eclipse along with the Solstice there are also many other cultural celebrations during this time frame that mirror and reflect much of this magic floating around us at this time of year.
Sunday is Mahāshivarātri, the Great Night of Shiva. Shiva is the aspect of divine energy that shepherds us through transformation into greater awareness - not an easy task. On this night of observance, we can honor that divine energy and align with it through the recitation of the the profound Shiva mantra, Oṃ Namaḥ Shivāya, according to the tradition of Vedic chanting.
"Rātri" means night, and indeed this traditional observance may evoke the night that precedes a hard-won revelation or recognition. In practice, we can think of it as a night dedicated to spiritual pursuits, focus and reverence. It is celebrated across the Indian diaspora each year on the 14th day of the waning moon in the lunar month that falls in February/March.
Shiva is known as the great yogi, the dedicated practitioner.
Any spiritual practice holds great potential on this day. Coming together with the intention of creating peace in your spirit for the benefit of all can have a tremendous ripple effect. 💫🤗
