2026-01-12: The 30-Seconds Rule
The 30-second rule is very simple. After a meaningful event, stop for about 30 seconds and write a very short summary. One or two sentences. Or even a few words.
This must not be analysis or interpretation. Just capture what happened and why it mattered.
Our memory fades very fast, and the brain rewrites events later. This short note helps capture the essence.
This practice improves self-reflection. It helps track patterns over time and reduces mental overload.
It's important to stop after 30 seconds. You shouldn't overthink.
To be honest, I don't always use this technique immediately after the event (conversation, lecture, dealing with a challenge). Sometimes, I write down my reflection hours later. Still, I've found that this technique is very useful, even when done hours after the event.
To be even more honest, I sometimes take longer than 30 seconds - maybe up to 5 minutes.
In such cases, the key point for me is to write down my insights. It's about condensing a prolonged experience into one or two sentences of "wisdom". This way, I build up my earthly knowledge and wisdom. 🙃
So feel free to experiment with this technique. It's important to stay mindful and conscious. I hope this technique helps.
