Question About Sharing Video Links

I listened to a successful YT creator who said to never share your video links on outside places, like FB, IG or emails, because YT will recognize that the viewer came from the outside and therefore YT will stop to promote your video internally.

Has anyone ever heard this or is this true?

I have been sharing my video links on my FB page and messenger to drive traffic to my videos and to promote them, but now I am not so sure this is a good idea.

Any input on this?
