SOTD: Versace Oud Noir
Good day brothers, happy Thanksgiving!
Finished going through my sample of Versace Oud Noir. Took me long enough, as this is one of the ones I really wanted to try, as it's frequently labeled as an excellent oud entry.
Not being an oud enthusiast myself, was very curious about this one. It opens up rather interesting with the fresher notes it has, the bitter orange and neroli, but from the moment it's sprayed, I see the heavier notes coming through already. Most prominently the pepper, olibanum and oud.
Other than the neroli and orange notes, I feel the rest are always in some sort present. Perhaps I find it a bit linear, but that's not a bad thing on this one. The great cardamom spiciness starts comming up rather quickly, which is very welcome by me. The cardamom note along with the olibanum lying over the oud base is coming out very well when it reaches the mid.
Upon drydown, the oud, cardamom and olibanum come together closely, and turns a bit greener, not exactly earthy to me, because of the patchoulli.
I'm not sure about the saffron note... very unfamiliar with it, so not sure if I pick it up.
Performance is pretty good. 6 hours rather notable.
Conclusion:
Do I like it? Really did.
Did I enjoy the decant? I did.
Full bottle worthy, for me? As an entry to oud fragrances, I'm sure this is as mainstream as it can get. I don't wear oud fragrances, as they tend to come out too heavy on me. However, I really liked this one, and could see it as full bottle worthy.
