Day Four of my five-day journey through the Nishane Time Capsule Discovery Set leads us to Tempfluo, a sweet floral woody scent that looks very intriguing on paper. After a diminishing return from a promising start over these past few days, I was hoping my fortunes would change.
They did, I suppose. A little.
The opening of Tempfluo is pleasant. There’s a decent citrus top that’s backed up with a sweetness which sets the scent apart from its peers. As the mid develops, the sweetness deepens and becomes a rich caramel nuttiness that does not disappoint. It’s not a strident scent, mind, yet the closeness feels strong enough to keep your interest high. As the hours roll and the drydown smoothes over, the bright florals present themselves atop a gourmand vanilla core. It’s both flowery and delicious, which is a rare treat.
But for me, the sum of its parts does not help it stand out in any particular aspect. I like the things it does, and individually I’ve better smells on all the bullet points it covers. It’s a nasal jack of all trades, sure, but it’s sadly a master of none. Enjoyable, but unremarkable at the core of the matter.
One more to try. Let’s hope it swings for the fences.
