Performance issues & solutions
Lately I’ve noticed that quite a few perfumes aren’t performing as well on my skin. After doing some research, here are some possible reasons:
Dry skin: I’ve been taking hot showers and using a salicylic acid body wash. Both strip natural oils from the skin, which can reduce fragrance performance by at least 30%.
Hydration: I haven’t been drinking enough water recently, even though my NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) has increased. Being slightly dehydrated constantly can affect how scents sit on the skin.
Circulation: Since moving to my new house, I haven’t been going to the gym. Poor circulation can impact skin health and is apparently bad for fragrance performance.
Winter: Cold weather also affects skin by stripping moisture. On top of that, the temperature isn’t ideal for proper evaporation, and thick clothes can rub off perfumes faster.
Here’s what I’m planning to change or implement:
  • Use richer moisturisers and body oils to keep skin properly hydrated.
  • Hit the gym again and incorporate a balanced diet rich in healthy fats and vitamins.
  • Hydrate well and stick to lukewarm showers.
  • Optional extras I’m considering: gentle massage of pulse points when applying moisturiser or oil to improve circulation and help scents diffuse better.
Gents, if anyone else has faced similar issues, these are some pointers that could help. Let’s keep smelling great this winter.
