What’s one application mistake you stopped making as you learned more?
I stopped spraying the front of my neck and chest. It was making me go nose blind way too fast. Now I stick to the back of the ears, back of the neck, and the sides of the torso. It gives me a better scent bubble and lets the fragrance show up naturally instead of blasting my nose. Curious what habits others have changed over time.

Not moisturizing first. Usually i just sprayed on a couple sprays and called it good and relied on the fragrances performance rather than doing my part in the process.

@Aditya Choksi I’m sure a good 90+% of guys don’t drink enough water. I too am guilty i know.
What is your Scent Profile?
So as many of you know, my fragrance collection is quite large as of this post I own 288 bottles and 121 decants. I have most scent profiles on the marketplace. I was having a conversation with a friend about creating my own fragrance and he asked me what would that smell like. As I thought about this I said, "Well it would need to be open with Citrus, transition to a Heart of White Florals, and dry down with Vanilla, Amber, and Musk." My perfect fragrance would have Top: Lemon, Orange, and Bergamot; Mid: Magnolia, Jasmine, and Gardenia; and Base: Vanilla, Amber, and Musk. Closest I have found is Ingenious Ginger by Goldfield & Banks. Can you share what your scent profile is and what fragrance closest resembles that profile?

Is there any site where you can click on fragrances you like and it keeps track of the notes to help you learn your scent profile? Or should i just start going full nerd and use excel spreadsheets?🤣
Reapplication and Layering
Lon’s post on performance (https://www.skool.com/bos/does-performanc-really-matter?p=b76fd81c) got me thinking about fragrance performance and my experiences. I’ve started changing (well creating) a routine now for wearing fragrances. But I’ve noticed the performance on fragrances is much less than advertised in some fragrances (advertised 6-8 and i might get 4 on my nose for example before it becomes a skin scent). I suspect it’s partially due to my naivety and fear of being the guy who wears too much cologne. For times when you need to reapply (i.e. applying a scent in the morning and wanting to smell the same scent in the evening) do you guys follow any routine for reapplication? Is it as simple as “spray again X times” or do you apply more moisturizer and then reapply? I am way too new to the fragrance game to layer different ones at this point. But if i want to smell the scent all through the day, what’s the best way to go about it?
How Do You Decide?
This may be more of an existential question than a practical one, but I'm at the beginning of my fragrance journey. Given the vast possibilities and the financial investment involved, how do you decide what fragrance you will purchase next?

I’ve become a regular at Ulta and Sephora by my house to go smell different scents. Each one also has a limited selection (that varies by store) of travel sizes of the different houses. I’ve been sampling that way as well as getting decants online from the reputable shops. If you don’t want to leave the house, the decants work great and the selection is obviously larger.
Parfums de Marly - Percival & Althair
So I'm on call all weekend and it's quiet here and I was bored. So what do I do? Go to my favorite local Niche spot...........Bloomingdales. And what else did I do?...............violate my #1 cardinal rule. NEVER BLIND BUY!! 🤷🏾‍♂️ But wait.........it's the PDM House, how can I go wrong. I had been eyeing a few, so I asked for a couple sprays on each hand and I walk around the Mall to let them dry down. Well...let me tell you, there was no need to do that. 👏🏾👏🏾 Althair: Sweet Vanilla warm and Spicy. How many times do I have say I'm a sucker for Vanilla & Amber? LOL! This settles right away, I didn't need to wait. It's either that, or because I got the same notes after the dry down. Sheez!!! I love this. So the Rep says I have another that's lighter but similar in notes. (Sales talk, but ok, I'll bite) As a note: I get back to my office and it's still banging and powerful. Projection & longevity is more than likely going to be great. Percival: Here we go again with the Amber & Woody notes, which with certain redundancy, I'm saying it again, I a sucker for you know what. 😁 When I looked at the notes chart, there were a lot that I couldn't recognize, but nevertheless, I was impressed with its opening scents. In addition to its base. And yes, it was lighter but also just as inviting. I'm gonna have me some fun with these. I'm just gonna take a shower put this on with one of my Bespoke Sam Surin suits and sit in the family room with my legs crossed, holding a glass of Macallam 18. That is the sophistication that it deserves. PDM is a Fragrance life changer! I just don't think you can go wrong. One thing though, your pockets will be like rabbit ears. Ugh!! My only regret is I should have waited and bought from Maxaroma. 2.5oz was $290. If I had waited, it's $262 & $270 for the 4.2oz. That's a huge brain fart, won't do that again; I don't know what i was thinking. Judge me but don't condemn me.

Just wore Layton today and gonna be test driving Althair tomorrow. Like you I’m a sucker if I run somewhere and find something I’ve been chasing and then forget to have patience to get it online. Thankfully this group has turned me onto reputable online places to buy with confidence from!
