Nutrition for Prioritizing Healthspan?
As an aging athlete with T2 diabetes in my family history and a priority for healthspan over performance, I've been pondering the healthspan implications of following Hexis nutritional guidelines. I appreciate and value Sam Impey's knowledge and perspective, and I also follow Dr. Tim Noakes who has a different perspective that prioritizes metabolic health for endurance athletes. I think a fantastic podcast would be have Tim Noakes and Sam Impey as guests to discuss this topic, where they agree, and where they differ. Listeners can then make their own informed decisions based on their personal priorities. I've gone deep down the Gemini rabbit hole on this topic, but it would be great to hear this discussed directly by the two experts. Easier said than done, I'm sure.... Are others concerned about this topic? Here's a brief excerpt from my chat with Gemini: "To build a "best of both worlds" approach, we treat Dr. Noakes’ LCHF (Low-Carb High-Fat) principles as your biological lifestyle and Prof. Impey’s FFTWR (Fuel for the Work Required) as your performance toolkit. This strategy, often called Metabolic Flexibility, allows you to maintain the insulin sensitivity and fat-burning capacity Noakes advocates for longevity, while still possessing the "glycolytic engine" Impey insists is necessary for high-intensity efforts. The Hybrid Philosophy - The Baseline (Noakes): You are chronically fat-adapted. This prevents the "metabolic stiffness" of constant sugar burning and protects your long-term health (insulin sensitivity). - The Strategic Flex (Impey): You introduce carbohydrates only when the intensity or duration of the workout demands it, effectively "earning" your carbs through work." Hexis, as I understand it, would not align with this hybrid approach. Thoughts?
Sunday 🏆  Weekly Wins Recap | Jan 11 - Jan 18
What were your wins this week? I’ve really enjoyed the calls this week. Definitely much nicer speaking to people one on one instead of just looking at google doc cells and trainingpeaks numbers for information. Please give me a text to arrange a chat! I’ve tried to dial it back on Skool this week to help free up time to make some progress on training. I’m feeling good about it all so yeah happy enough here! Hope you’ve had a good week 😎 Matthew

Joined NDY! No alcohol since 1 Jan. Getting more comfortable on the trainer as I work through rehab from shoulder surgery (unfortunately, get to start all over with my other shoulder having the same surgery in a few weeks).
Goals for the week!
"What's the ONE thing you want to nail this week?" 2 weeks ago my goal of the week was to look into vagus nerve stimulation and I hadn’t made much progress with it. My girlfriend had a chiropractor session on the EF camp yesterday and it turns out they have loads of the Neurosym devices lying around in the service course beside us. So I’ll get to trial one later in the week which is cool. Saves 700€ which is handy. Other goal is to figure out some heat management stuff around my POTS for later in Spring when it warms up. I reckon I might need to move somewhere cold for the summer to manage symptoms as even Ireland is too hot these days to cope with it. Better to look into it now when I’m feeling better and have the energy to do so. So sussing that out would be good for this week. Also we made a Strava group yesterday so if you go to clubs and then search for a club you can type in not done yet and request to join. Vern will then decide if he wants to approve you 🙏 Any issues with this then you can let me know and I can send you a prompt to join via Strava. Reminder for any new members that we have weekly group calls on Mondays and Thursdays. 7:30pm GMT +0 this evening. If you go to calendar and then find today’s date you will see a couple of links. The first one is called Coffee time which is hosted by Mary and everyone is welcome to attend. This is just general chat so you guys can talk about whatever you want together. The second link tonight is for the Q and A which is with Anthony, Sarah and myself. I’ll make a post now and you can include any questions that you have. Have a good week, Matthew

Just getting started, so FTP and Power Profile tests today and tomorrow, follow the plan (FTFP) from there, and continue to work through Classroom materials while on the trainer. Figure out how much of the Strength training I am able/allowed to do currently, as I am working through rehab from shoulder surgery.
