Practice: Activating your Qi; Grounding Qi; Tai and Qi flow recorded session 2-15-2026 Before: Waking up for early morning practice After: Warm and alert, found my Qi. Still ragged form but getting a bit better. Found the hands focus to be informative and helpful.
7 Mistakes in Tai Chi
This is a great video explaining how we look at the intention of our practices by considering these common "mistakes" that we all run into. One of the main reasons I started practicing qi gong more regularly was to manage my energy levels, ability to stay focused, and all the other ups and downs that come with perimenopause. And because I had been practicing yoga for such a long time, I had to come at it with a "you don't know what you don't know" mindset, meaning less expectations of myself and what I think I know, and allowing for a new process to take hold. And that was both challenging, but exciting once I started making new connections. Check out this video! Can you relate?

Great video. Thanks for posting it. The martial aspects are less important to me than the health and mindfulness components of the study, so I am glad Sonny touched on that. I really enjoy the history and etymology aspects of his discussions too. I view my Tai and Qi practice as a long term endeavor, as he noted. I am enjoying the journey and not fixated on the destination.
FYI,,, RETIREMENT MUCH MORE THAN YOU THINK!!
Retirement (for me) has proven to be more than just a condition you find yourself in.... I was born in Lubbock Texas,, ( THE PANHANDLE ) raised on and taught Cowboy ethics,, (God, Family, County and State) but also that ALL PEOPLE COUNT!!! That a Man or Woman's worth and value is measured on his or hers commitment and honor shown to All the Above and to how,, WORK AND PROVIDE THEIR FAMILY'S.. I've WORKED ( HARD,, AN HONEST) over 56 years,,, THEN CAME RETIREMENT!! I still wake up at 3:30 am. BUT have NO JOB to go too.... I HAVE NO JOB !!! The EMOTIONAL STRAIN of that STATEMENT has been HARD on me!! I HAVE CONTINUED TO " DO SOMETHING QI EVERYDAY" And it has helped,, a lot!! But also HAD to learn the difference between "I DON'T HAVE A JOB" and "I DON'T NEED A JOB" also that "SOCIAL SECURITY AND PENSION IS NOT CHARITY" NOR ASSISTANCE FOR THE UNEMPLOYED,,, BUT A MONETARY RETURN ON ONE'S LONG TERM SELF-INVESTMENT!! NOW THAT'S ("RUNNING OFF AT THE MOUTH") SORRY GUYS AND GALS,, BUT I NEEDED TO GET OUT OF MY SYSTEM!!! "I'M BACK"!!! PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES FOR MY SILENCE AN ABSENCE FROM THE GROUP!! "LET'S DO SOMETHING QI TODAY,, EVERYDAY" AND BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY,,, "SOMETHING WONDERFUL IS HAPPENING"!!! SOMETHING WONDERFUL HAS HAPPENED FOR ME!!!

David I retired for the third time in May of 2025. I was a Technology Director for two different very large Healthcare Systems. It was difficult to give up the relationships established over decades as well as the structured routine. The first time I retired I found myself a bit lost after just 30 days. I was fortunate to have skillsets that allowed me to jump back into the same role in another organization and I did find that "need to be needed" once again intoxicating. I did not need the retirement income but I did need purpose. I struggled constantly with the idea of retiring again until last year. Out of the blue it dawned on me that I was fooling myself when I thought that work was the only purpose. I decided to find other "purposes" like wife, healthy lifestyle, travel, grandchild, and just stillness in my day to reflect and imagine the next purpose. I told my employer in late April that I was leaving in late May and felt like the clouds had suddenly cleared. I have not regretted that decision for one moment. I find the days fly by with with planned and unplanned activity. I love my freedom to do whatever. I admit that some days I have a moment or two of boredom, but then I reflect on those endless meetings and stressful deadlines and those moments of boredom become priceless :). I am going back to work in the late spring, not in IT, but at a golf course doing menial tasks. I will be a 72 year old newbie and I look forward to it with anticipation. I was fortunate to love my career, but also fortunate enough to know when it was time to leave and find "purpose" next.

Rooted Alchemy family, we just surpassed 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. Wow. Back in August, who would have thought we would build a Tai Chi community of over 100,000 people practicing together from all over the world. This journey has been incredibly humbling, and we’re deeply grateful to every single one of you who has been here, practicing, watching, and growing with us. We’re excited for what the future holds and grateful for your patience as we continue building intentionally behind the scenes. Just know that we’re still early, and there is so much more to come. And a huge thank you to Sonny for practicing, teaching, and learning with such depth and integrity that it naturally spread far and wide. Stay the course.
