Don't major in minors when it comes to YouTube...
I initially posted this as a reply to @Ali Alqaraghuli on this thread but felt it would help a few more people here too. The conversation was around where you should place your focus when it comes to YouTube. After coaching 1000's of YouTube channel owners on this I have been able to see the common patterns and mistakes most of them make. One of the biggest is spending time, energy, money, focus, attention on things that don't really matter. aka 'Majoring in the minors'. Let me explain. A lot of content creators worry about their editing, their audio, their tags, descriptions, about section, branding etc. All of this stuff is important. I'm not denying that. You need that shit dialled in but it's not THE most important. When it comes to YouTube it doesn't matter what's in the video if nobody clicks on it in the first place 🤷‍♂️ Obviously, if the product (video) isn't great then the algorithm won't push the video anyway but I do think far too many people major in the minors when it comes to what's actually important to get your content out there. I have spoken with many individuals who have fairly average editing but their videos exploded on YouTube simply because they nailed the following 3 keys to 'virality' on YouTube: - Video title - Thumbnail - I'll cover number 3 in a minute, keep reading. There's a shit tonne of psychology that goes into writing a solid title & hook and creating a thumbnail that makes people want to click. When I discovered this I switched my thumbnail designer from $5 per tn to $50 and it's made a massive difference in terms of impressions/views/revenue. I want to share an analogy that I use with students.... I want you to think of your YouTube channel as a shop on a high street (that's if you still shop on high streets lol maybe you order 100% of everything you need on amazon prime 🤪) If you were walking down a high street and you saw a banged up broken shop with smashed windows and a door hanging off it's hinges, would you go inside to have a look around?

@Zein F Good question. We see a lot of new channel owners getting consumed by the analytics, focusing on the views and, as a result, changing too much too often because they don't like what they see. I think there's also an element of perfectionism with a lot of people too. Imperfect action > perfect inaction every time. This is where I see a lot of individuals invest time when it would be better to focus on the ideas and take imperfect action to get live feedback and data from the market.

Using ChatGPT to repurpose valuable replies...
Hey team! Just a quick one. Recently I have been making a conscious effort to save every single response I have for questions I get from my 'tribe'. I like to spend a bit of time answering questions and providing thoughtful and life-changing answers to questions. Rather than letting these answers disappear I like to save them to a Notion database - 1) so I can easily find them again should someone ask a very similar question in the future 2) it's my intellectual property, no point losing all the time and effort I put into the responses 🤷‍♂️ I've also been copying all of these replies into ChatGPT (using specific prompts) and asking it to not only summarise the responses but create social media content, quotes, articles etc from them. Benefits? - It's my work. My words. My heart-felt authentic responses. Not something fabricated from scratch. - I don't have to spend time coming up with tweets or instagram posts. I've already done it by responding to my community. - It's super easy, takes literally a few mins to copy them across. Win/win. Hope it helps!

@Griffin A. Hamilton yep often my replies are when I'm in flow state so they are authentic and not forced. I can't say the same for my content at times so it's good to uncover those gems! ♦️
Don't Waste Time on Video Editing (Advice from Film Booth)
Hey guys, I see many people in this group make a mistake I used to make quite a lot -- and it slowed down my growth and killed my enthusiasm. It wasn't until I had a call with Ed (Film Booth), who told me I should spend ALL my time and effort improving my titles and thumbnails. Because if your titles and thumbnails aren't optimized, people won't click. And they won't get to see your fancy editing. I'd spend 7 hours editing a video that would get no clicks. Don't make this mistake. If your goal is growth, make your titles and thumbnails as good as possible -- only then should you get super fancy with the videos.

When I discovered this I switched my thumbnail designer from $5 per tn to $50 and it's made a massive difference. I like to think of YouTube as a shop front on a high street. If you were walking down a high street and you saw a banged up broken shop with smashed windows and a door hanging off it's hinges, would you go inside to have a look? Probably not. They could be selling the brand new iphone for $100 but it wouldn't matter because you'd never see it. Same with YT. The title and thumbnail is the shop front. Make it enticing for people to come in and have a look around. One caveat to all of this though... After coaching 1000's of YouTube channel owners I have realised that without a good IDEA none of this matters. I have seen videos explode (250k-1m views) with a terrible thumbnail, awful title and a mediocre edit simply because they nailed the idea. Worth mentioning too. Solid post @Ali Alqaraghuli
What's your goal?
If you don't know, you need to know. Every Synthesizer should have a goal. "If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable." - Seneca I'm curious to know what you want so I know how I can help. So what's your goal?
