This Offseason Will Expose You
The new year is coming fast. Faster than you think. So let me ask you this. Defensive linemen. Coaches. What are you committing to before next season? Not hoping. Not talking. Committing. Gym work? Another sport? Club teams? Technique? Film study? Leadership? Because the offseason doesn’t reward intentions. It rewards decisions. Drop your goal below. Say it out loud. Make it real. I’ll be reading every one.

I’ll be working with Coach Dheilly to level up my game as a Defensive Lineman and Coach Stelter from SpecialTeamsU to dial in my Long Snapping and go “unnoticed”. In the gym, I have also committed to a training program made by Jeff Cavelier to increase my endurance and stay strong, while leaning out and improving my agility/quickness/flexibility.
Speed kills…
Watch this Micah Parsons clip closely. All game long, he sells speed. So the tackle panics. Oversets on the first kick. That’s the mistake. Micah sees it. Plants. Counters inside. No fancy move. Just a rip. That’s elite football IQ. What he does great: Forces the overset. Times the counter perfectly. Stays violent through the rip. What he could do better: Tighter path inside. Attack The Inside Snake Arm More vertical through the QB. But make no mistake. The rush was won before contact. Speed sets up so much!!! 👇 What’s your favorite speed-to-inside counter?

Where do you think his eyes are here? His get-off is insane, gotta have some peripherals on the ball you’d gotta think.
Stop Jumping
Match The Hand Means: Reading the QB’s throwing arm and putting that same hand in the throwing lane. It lets a defensive lineman disrupt passes, bat balls down, and still finish the rush without leaving their feet. 🔹 Match The Hand Drill • Start in your stance and explode out • Win your move on the pop-up bag • Get your eyes on the QB immediately • Match the QB’s throwing hand and stay on your feet • Close space and finish the sack with the hand up 👇 When rushing the QB, what are you focused on most?

What system, with respect to consequences, helps keep you or your program on course?
So, I've been revamping my coaching philosophy as of late and one thing that is potentially controversial is a "Consequence Template". Half is very generic and geared more towards practice. The other half is game situational. Originally, the game situational side was significantly different as the consequences for redirection, aside from the inherent persona "time outs", were not immediate. Meaning the player would squirrel and sneak around to forego the consequence. Part of me was thinking of including some sort of "exercises" on the sideline, but I'm second guessing it for 1) gassing kids out, and 2) someone being mad that I'm belittling their kid, or someon elses kid, in public on the sideline. I want to be able to have my own system(s) that will help get the job done with respect to accountability, but do so in a way that the kids will not be afraid to try and/or make mistakes. Any advice on things that work for you? I know everything is relative to the region and the associate population dynamics, but there's got to be some sort of fundamental component(s) I'm not grasping or thinking about right now. Thanks in advance! Coach Evans

I would have the Leaders on your team decide the consequences and reinforce that they will not make the same mistake, and that they will be disciplined for it.

You tell me, here’s my tape from the season. https://onedrive.live.com/?qt=allmyphotos&photosData=%2Fshare%2FCEC07CB28CAC05B3%21s95e8bfb8603a4611b22a9f5965aa7a7e%3Fithint%3Dvideo%26e%3DnF3yIB%26migratedtospo%3Dtrue&cid=CEC07CB28CAC05B3&id=CEC07CB28CAC05B3%21s95e8bfb8603a4611b22a9f5965aa7a7e&redeem=aHR0cHM6Ly8xZHJ2Lm1zL3YvYy9jZWMwN2NiMjhjYWMwNWIzL0lRQzR2LWlWT21BUlJySXFuMWxscW5wLUFaY2VDaURhMG94b2pHR0doUV9oc293P2U9bkYzeUlC&v=photos As a team I thought we did good, made it to the Hardy second year in a row, which is a program record, and tied for the best regular season record in Rams history going 6-2 . Individually I saw lots of improvement from last year even though It didn't show on the stats sheet.
