Trust the Process
Folks here's some real world results that Ive personally experienced from "Trusting the Process". Let have some context for the below. Year on year, you see the increase in my FTP (Functional Threshold Power) from following structured training plans. You'll also see progress from training block to training block You'll notice 2023 and 2024 are missing results from some of the training blocks. In 2023, I got sick and had issue which my lungs and heart. It basically destroyed my season. Eventually I got going again mid summer of that year. Then I managed to herniate discs in my lower back, trying to get back to racing by not following the plan and going over the top with training load and intensity. The back injury lingered through the winter and into the 2024 season so I didn't really gect to has a good winter of training prior the season hence the missing data for 2024. Any questions, please ask?

So guys, decided to jump back on this topic again. One month later, well 5 weeks to be exact, we'll get to that in a bit. 2nd block of the winter training plan done. It had it ups, a trip to Girona for weeks training, and it downs, a week off the bike sick directly before the trip to Girona. The week off meant I went to Girona in a different frame of mind than originally planned. I was originally planning getting some long training rides in and throwing in some hard efforts on climbs towards the end of the rides to see how my durability was progressing after 4 or 5 hrs riding time. Unfortunately having been sick for 8 days leading into the trip and finishing medication on the day I travelled over, I had to change the goal of the training for the week to just getting steady endurance rides done and maybe some intensity at the end of the week. Anyway I've returned home from Girona and just completed the 2nd block of my plan which means another FTP test. It went ok not as well as I hoped. But there was improvement. The graph is still trending in the right direction. Remember trust the process!

It was Christmas week folks and I know a lot of us feel guilty about eating too much and not moving enough but instead of focusing on what we did wrong, lets focus on what we can be proud of. What wins did you have this week? For me I was really happy not to miss a session. I'd plenty of imperfect sessions where I'd slept poorly or had a busy schedule - i'd loads of reasons to skip but rolled my sleeves up. Proud to get through with 100% compliance. 💪

For the first year in several years, I'm not doing a 20min test over the Christmas break. I've always planned it that way. Leaves roughly 8 weeks (2 training blocks) to the start for the Irish road racing season at the end of February. This year is different, I was off the bike sick for 8 days prior to 6 days in Girona on the 16th December. That means, I'm a week or so behind where I usually am at Christmas so I've more structured sessions over the break to complete therefore I need to plan which days I can meet training buddies for endurance spins. Still getting the hours in just not quite as many as a normal Christmas

Strange timing on this one. I was out for a ride in Girona today (it's beautiful here) and broke my chain doing 30 second sprints. Thankfully I had a chain tool and a friend had a power link. I got back home, catching up on messages and a group member had sent me a message asking what he should include in his saddle bag. Feel free to add to the list. Here's what I think is important: Pump, tube x 2, levers, multitool (with chain breaker), power link, tyre boot, valve core & remover, zipp ties.

@Anthony Walsh and make sure ride buddy has a quick link with him. 🤣
Gym Equipment
Coach. I don’t really want to join a gym unless absolutely necessary. Can you suggest the equipment needed to do the sessions at home. Eg kettlebells that can be used for goblet squats and also for an improvised dead lifts and kettle bell swings. Looks like a stability ball is defo needed. But for exercises like the reverse row or cable leg pulls is there any alternative that I do at home with some basic equipment. Which weigh kettleballs would u suggest to begin with. Or dumbbells etc Thx

@Alex Omar where are you based? If in Europe, Decathlon have a good range of gym equipment. I've bought additional weight plates from them. I'm using the non Olympic size plates, 1 inch / 25mm. They have a good range resistance band and kettle bells.
