Or why have you! I've seen a few people announce that they either have or haven't done this step. I'm in the group that hasn't announced my channel to social media platforms (though I have told some close friends). At the moment, it feels like I need to go and make my first 20 or so 'bad' videos before sharing. I also feel like there should be more content to choose from, since I feel like my current video topics won't actually interest most of them. If you announced your channel to friends/family, when did you? Have you found it helpful or nice to know that the people you care about are supporting your journey? If you haven't, what are your reasons? Thanks for sharing in advance 😎

I shared my videos on Facebook. Close friends, co-workers and family inevitably discovered them. A couple friends have been consistently supportive with likes and shares but most have been indifferent or out-right discouraging (the latter inspired my video "Bad Things Happen When You Create (Expect Resistance)." I have not shared my latest video on FB and the views have been much less. This shows me that about 65% of my views on YouTube are coming from my audience on Facebook. I have shared a little of what I'm learning with a close friend of mine, an author who's publisher convinced him (this week) to start an author page. His author page is getting NO engagement. He has a small but devoted global following so I'm confident it's FB's algorithm that's holding him back. I encouraged him to treat his personal FB account as if it were a "like page," and that he should focus on building an audience with YouTube. Hopefully I get feature him in one of my videos very soon.

A lot of great material here. Most of it not new to me but good, but always good to hear again. Applying for fellowships is something that I had not considered. This is great advice, especially for younger folks, single folks, people with more time on their hands -- but can be done by anyone.
