Star fruits
I recently traveled to Hawaii and Guam and was blessed to find wild star fruit trees, picked so many that I was able to have several mono meals of them. They were delicious. However, just yesterday when i was looking up some info about star fruits, i saw a warning about a toxin called caramboxin, specifically a neurotoxin. The warning is mainly for those with reduced kidney function, but seemingly also applies to normal individuals, recommending against eating a large amount of star fruits. I was really surprised. Does anyone know anything about this, and whether eating any other part of the fruit (seed, skin) cancel out the effect of the toxin, as I literally have eaten dozens of them in the last few days and am feeling perfectly fine. And they also warn against its high oxalate amount, stating that even in people with normal kidney function, eating more than 4 star fruits can cause acute kidney failure. It seems like i took a big risk! It seems Dr would have something to say about this.
