Embracing imperfection for the sake of progress
I uploaded my first video a day ahead of schedule....but it came at a cost. I had to sacrifice all of my natural urges and tendencies to improve it. I had to release my determination to stick to the original plan because quite simply, there would not be enough time to execute such an ambitious goal.
I'm a recovering procrastinator who would frequently indulge in the sweet nectar of perfectionism. If I spot something I can do "better," I resolve to improve it. If I spot a speck of dust on the kitchen counter on the way to grab a drink of water, after flicking it away, I get the dust pan and brush out and attack the other dust dwellers I notice. An hour later and dehydrated, I remember what I entered the kitchen to do. The moral: remember your WHY and focus on it.
In order to overcome my urge to relapse and achieve my goal of uploading my first video on my new channel, I had to keep it simple and remember that my only measure of success was to simply upload the video. Everything else would have been a bonus. And if you watch the video, you'll understand what I mean when I say: nothing I could have changed or added would have made it perfect anyway.
Inspirations (read: shout outs) that helped me make my video:
A video about embracing imperfection (Wabi Sabi) shared by
An unscripted video uploaded for the sake of showing up by @Tintin Smith
The unmade bed on first video on his channel
