As we've been looking more closely at onboarding, we've moved beyond Start Here posts, welcome messages, and what someone is told to do first.
We've been thinking about the experience of being new.
And one question keeps coming up for us...
When does onboarding actually end?
Is it when someone...
👋 joins the community?
📌 reads Start Here?
💬 introduces themselves?
📚 opens the first resource?
📅 attends something?
Those are all things we can see and measure.
But someone could do every one of them and still be wondering...
💙 What am I supposed to do here?
💙 Where do I fit?
💙 Who are these people?
💙 What happens next?
Which made us wonder if we've sometimes thought about onboarding in terms of what a member completes rather than what changes for the member.🤔
Maybe the better question isn't...
Did they finish onboarding?
Maybe it's...
Do they still feel new?
And that's what we're sitting with today.
