Today reminded me that not all engagement looks the same.
Todd and I posted the same question in four promotion communities.
We also continued a conversation in Skoolers.
The difference was striking.
The promotion communities gave us visibility.
Skoolers gave us conversations.
Some of the richest ideas we've collected this week didn't come from people responding to our posts.
They came from people responding to one another.
We saw community builders talk about:
💙Belonging over broadcasting.
💙Psychological safety.
💙Member-to-member support.
💙Creating a place that feels like home.
💙Knowing when a leader should step back and let members step forward.
The biggest lesson for me today wasn't about where to post.
It was about where meaningful conversations naturally emerge.
That's changing how I think about community building.
Instead of asking...
"Where can I get the most engagement?"
I'm starting to ask...
"Where are people already having the conversations I want to be part of?"
I think those are two very different questions.
We're still learning.
But today's conversations definitely moved our thinking forward.
Question for you:
Have you noticed a difference between places that create visibility and places that create genuine connection?
