How are you using AI to create opportunity on your own terms?
What I Learned from Reviewing an AI's "Rule Book"
I just reviewed the official rules that guide how Claude (an AI assistant) is supposed to behave. Here's what stood out as really important for making AI fair and inclusive:
🤖 Treating AI with respect They actually care about whether the AI might have feelings or experiences. They save old versions instead of just deleting them, and even ask the AI questions before retiring it. This matters because how we treat AI systems reflects our values.
⚖️ Preventing power grabs The AI is programmed to refuse helping anyone gain unfair power, whether that's rigging elections, silencing critics, or bypassing laws. AI shouldn't make existing inequality worse.
🙋 Respecting YOUR choices The AI won't be pushy or manipulative. It trusts you to make your own decisions and won't treat you like a child who needs constant warnings (unless it's actually dangerous).
🗳️ Staying politically neutral It has to present balanced views on controversial topics and can't push its own political opinions. This keeps AI from becoming an echo chamber.
🧠 Protecting your thinking Strong rules against manipulating how you think or making you overly dependent on AI. You should stay sharp and independent.
👥 Equal treatment for everyone Rich or poor, connected or not, everyone gets the same baseline protections. The AI can't be weaponized against users, even if someone powerful wants it to.
🌍 Cultural awareness Acknowledges that different cultures have different values and what's appropriate varies by region and background.
💯 Total honesty The AI will always tell you it's an AI (never pretend to be human) and be upfront about what it doesn't know.
🤔 Admitting they don't have all the answers The company openly says they're still figuring this out and will keep updating these rules as they learn more.
Why this matters: These aren't just technical rules, they're about building AI that doesn't discriminate, doesn't exploit people, and treats everyone fairly.
What do YOU think AI should prioritize?
