Every band's got a song they're sick of playing.

But it's usually the one still paying the bills...

I was re-watching Travis' "New Money From Old Courses" and a lightbulb went off.

"rental income beats sales income."

Sell a thing once, get paid once...but rent it?

You get paid every time it plays!

Which got me thinkin' about how songs actually work.

A band or artist cuts a hit.

The local station spins it for a season.

Then it goes quiet....

But the band doesn't panic and re-record it...

They don't tour harder to squeeze the same town dry!

Instead...they license it.

👉 Now it's in a car ad.

👉 A Netflix scene.

👉 Somebody's wedding...

...the band didn't lift a finger...

Yet the checks still clear while they sleep!

Now look at the quiet stuff we're all sitting on.

The course that cooled off.

The membership that leveled out.

The tool that's already selling just fine.

(my own drive's got a few of those collecting dust, so no judgment lol)

None of it got tired.

It just finished its run on the only station that ever played it...OURS.

We don't need to "lock in" and push it harder...

We need to get it on a station we don't own.

Travis proved it small:

He had a sales letter sitting on the shelf and rented it to a partner.

He does none of the selling, none of the delivery, and none of the traffic and collects $150 sales pop every time the sales letter does its thing.

A royalty check for a song he already wrote! 🎸

So the move was never "make more hits."

It's getting what we already built spinning on someone else's station...

The only question left is who's station we get on (and how we open those convos).

P.S. Jimmy Buffett wrote "Margaritaville" in 1977. He passed in 2023. That one song still licenses a $2.2 BILLION empire... restaurants, a beer, a tequila, even retirement communities. He's gone. The royalty checks aren't. One old song clocks in every single day, and it hasn't needed him ONCE to punch the card.
